I believe this Author is doing the right thing by warning people about Ouija boards, plus the stories are so much fun to read, whether you believe it or not. I wouldn't go near a Ouija board after reading this.

7 of 8 people found the following review helpful. Not bad for a first-time writer! By The Kindle Book Review This was an interesting way to mix two genres--the post-apocalyptic feel of the Hunger Games with the medieval situation of Merlin or any other Arthurian saga. Lucy is a relatable as a main character--she's compassionate, she trusts her brothers and has a good relationship with them, and she seems fairly intelligent, figuring out the map's magic on the fly. And the map's magic has a logical consistency--always nice to read a book that has the magic figured out.On the flip side, this book was prone to the same problems that plague most first-time writers--a lot of the characters were blank slates and lacked a discernible personality, the romance felt shallow and contrived, and there was a lot of telling instead of showing. One detail that really bugged me--Lucy and her siblings seemed to be preternaturally gifted in medieval skills, such as horseback riding and archery, picking them up far too quickly. And the Wardens were a little too easily defeated. However, both worlds were solidly built, the pacing was good, and the descriptions were excellent. (THERE WAS FOOD. Yup, still salivating. Anyway....) Despite the ending feeling like it was all over the place, I would happily to read the sequel and see how and why the worlds tie together, and who the real evil mastermind is.Karie Crawford (The Kindle Book Review)**The Kindle Book Review received a free copy of this book for an independent, fair, and honest review. I have to admit, even though I'm an adult reader I stayed up late to finish the book! I thoroughly enjoyed all the twists and turns that kept the story interesting to the end. Anjasa is as irrepressibly hot and adventurous as ever, and with her two lovers at her side, i can’t help but wish I was her the whole story through. More than that, this is just another testament to how good this series is. It’s not just good for a fantasy, or good for a romance, but a solid tale told with flavor and subtext. It’s the kind of thing you could have fun with and talk about. From the subtle foreshadowing you only realize after the fact, to the background personas that come so alive and make you wish they ALL had their own tales told!

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Great fantasy By Tracy Redwood Somehow the Keeps have managed to conclude this fine trilogy in a way that’s gut wrenching, heart warming and epic! The first novel started off a little slow, the second kicked things up into the stratosphere, and this conclusion was the high point I thought it was doomed to never reach. If you enjoyed the first two at all, or thought they had any potential, then this one will be a pure delight.

5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Before The Dawn- GREAT final book! By GINNY MILLER Before The Dawn is the conclusion to the After the Ending series. There were a lot of story-lines to wrap up and questions to answer but authors Lindsey Pogue and Lindsey Fairleigh did a phenomenal job of finishing off the series with a bang! There is a lot of excitement, character development, and personal growth in the story. We get more involved with our entire group of favorite (Zoe, Dani, Jason, Jake, Harper, Chris, Sanchez, and the rest of the gang). A lot of series falter when trying to conclude their series, but Before the Dawn was a great final book and left me satisfied with how everything turns out. I don’t want to give away any spoilers, but this book lives up to its expectations!

Book Review - Author Unpublished By Cary Morton I received a copy of this book directly from the author/publisher in exchange for an honest review.I can honestly say that I was somewhat surprised by this book. I’ll admit, the third book in the series was probably my least favorite, and reading the third and fourth book in the span of just a few days had me a little burned out. I went into the fourth book full of trepidation that it was going to be yet another long drag through a narrative where very little happened. Luckily, that wasn’t so.Let me first say that the writing in Before The Dawn was pretty damn flawless. I didn’t notice any obvious typos, awkward sentences, or grammatical errors. Not a single one—which is pretty amazing. The narrative flowed smoothly at a nice pace throughout, and other than a few short moments at the beginning of the book (Anna’s sections of the book weren’t my favorite), I didn’t feel the need to skim. The characters were unique and complex, and though I sometimes had difficulty throughout the series telling Dani/Zoe and their respective J-named boyfriends apart by tone, I enjoyed their company. Their world was rich, fraught with danger and uncertainty, and unlike the previous book, had some pretty great action oriented moments. This was probably one of my favorite books in the series thus far—it may even be my favorite. The story felt wrapped up by the end, and though it had it’s stab at an HEA ending, it wasn’t perfect—which kept it from falling into the familiar romance genre trope that often ends with everyone pregnant, married, and all the bad guys defeated. Okay, so maybe there’s a smidgen of trope involved, but it was pulled off really well.Overall, I really enjoyed the book, and I think it was a fantastic ending to the series. I would highly recommend it to anyone who’s been following the series thus far—including those who, like me, may not have enjoyed the third book quite as much.

Bennett Finally, after many harrowing adventures and plenty of tragedy along the way, Zoe and Dani are finally together (and Zoe is in her right mind). They’ve managed to settle down on a small farm with their handsome hunks, Jason and Jake, and their close-knit group, including such personal favorites as Harper, Sanchez, and Kris. So, naturally, such harmony gets blown to smithereens quite early on, and when you’ve got super powers, the explosions are big and exciting. When Jason is seriously wounded and disappears, his friends mount a desperate search and rescue mission, but even as hope fades, the key to what truly happened may be hidden within Dani’s mind. And what’s going on with the Colony, Zoe’s mom, and the evil general? You can bet your buttons that The General isn’t sitting back, twiddling his thumbs and letting bygones be bygones after his Re-Gens revolted. Before the Dawn brings back Zoe and Dani for one final encore as they struggle to keep alive the hope they’ve just started to build. Safety and peace come at a steep price, and their adventures aren’t over.Personally, it was enjoyable to jump back into this exciting world and meet all my old friends, (especially Harper). The book kept my attention as I tried to solve the puzzle of Jason’s disappearance. The middle picked up when Zoe and the gang set off on a rescue mission that quickly went south. The ending was satisfying, but I’ll let you get there to find out for yourself. If you liked the other books in the After the Ending series, then Before the Dawn is a no-brainer.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Pre-Oxford Bacon Yolk By B. J Robbins A history of the Baconian Heresy, through Dr. Greenwood's arguments, and Mr. Lang's counterarguments. What is surprising is that many of Greenwood's arguments about Shakespeare are still being made today by dreamers in the Oxfordian Heresy. Nothing has changed. The same false arguments, anachronistic thinking, lack of knowledge about Elizabethan times. The only thing is Baconians do not claim that Bacon was the son of Queen Elizabeth, and her lover. Bacon liked little boys.Bacon, by many estimations, was the genius, not Oxford. But not a writer of plays or even poetry. That is a big poop in the pants. Oxford wrote poems and comedies of his own for his own troupe of players. But he did not spend a lot of time in the world of theater, as most experts think the writer of Shakespeare's plays had to.The "Great Unknown" is if Bacon did not write the plays of Shakespeare, who did? Of course, not Shakespeare. He did not write the plays with his name on them, did not h ave a First Folio dedicated to him after his death by his good friends who had been mentioned in his will. No Shakespeare is TOO believable. Let's find a candidate so unbelievable that it requires a huge stretch of imagination. The controversy is thus summed up by Richard Grant White:"It is as certain that William Shakespeare wrote (after the theatrical fashion and under the theatrical conditions of his day) the plays which bear his name, as it is that Francis Bacon wrote the "Novum Organum", the "Advancement of Learning", and the "Essays". The notion that Bacon also wrote 'Titus Andronicus', `The Comedy of Errors", "Hamlet", "King Lear", and "Othello", is not worth five minutes serious consideration by any reasonable creature" (Atlantic Monthly, April, 1883).That is better than anything I can say, and it can be applied to every other candidate.

Unlikeable FMC and an unusual writing style I couldn't get into By Bbreviews I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.I'm just going to jump into my review here and start with the big problems. I did not like the character at all. Iyemo is spoiled, entitled, and whiny. Instead of trying to make the best of her situation, she blows off her new job, parties and then complains when she gets in trouble. The "why me" song and dance gets old, especially after doing stupid stuff, like posing naked for one of her boyfriends, (yes, I said boyfriends) a man she hardly knows, and then whines when she breaks it off and he sells said pictures to the tabloids. She also has a drug problem, which the author does portray well, but by the time she tries to get her life together, I'm so fed up with her that I don't care if she succeeds or not. The one good thing she does, helping Gomi, hardly redeems her in my eyes, and she definitely does not deserve his friendship or support. I did like Gomi as a character, as well as Leuwa, but they just weren't enough to help me through this book.I also found the writing style to be distracting. In the very beginning of the book, the author jumps from present to past multiple times with no transitory warning, and it throws the reader out of the story. The narrator of the book is also extremely active, and addresses the reader often. I never really got used to it, and didn't find the way it was done appealing. Had the author explained what he was doing through the narrator in the beginning, it would have made the transition much easier from story to narrator. Also as a side note, the plot of this book is basically a really, really long coming of age story set in space. There's a war threatening, but it ends up being nothing more than a plot device that's solved in a few sentences, and not by Iyemo. If that's not your cup of tea, I don't recommend this book for you.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. intelligent child who believed in God and was possessed with ... By Jill C I was given an ARC of The Edge of God for an honest review. It’s a witty, engaging story that takes place on several planets that have issues getting along. The descriptions of scenery allow you to be there, right in the moment, with the characters.Imeyo is the daughter of a political powerhouse on the planet Gaya. She was a kind, intelligent child who believed in God and was possessed with keen insight into the plight of others less fortunate than herself. She had a driving need to become an Astronautical Engineer with the expertise to help her planet become more technologically advanced. However, as Imeyo gets older she loses faith in God. She is not even sure that God really exists, but she is sure that if he does, he certainly doesn’t care about her. She is mired in her inability to believe that things can change for the better. She is not where she wants to be, but soon you realize she is where she needs to be in order to make positive changes in her life and the lives of those that she cares about. She struggles with her life choices in ways that are at times painful to witness, but lead you to understand her completely. All of the characters are very well developed; some you will love and some you will love to dislike. The plot is interesting, multi-faceted and easy to follow. There is angst, sadness, bitterness, humor, laughter, science, philosophy, emotional and physical beauty, love, bravery, cowardice and self-discovery all wrapped up in an excellently written book.I would highly recommend this book to anyone regardless of genre preference.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. While the ending was good in some ways By D Miller This story was set in a universe where slavery was a big issue among the citizens of the inhabited planets. One young member of a prominent family, somewhat dysfunctional, gets herself posted to a remote mining planet, where the men outnumber women by some margin. This sets the scene for the first part of the book, where Iyemo keeps adding yet another boyfriend to her little tribe. For me this part went on for much too long, as basically the same thing is happening repeatedly, and I found myself wishing for the story to move on.The story got more interesting in the second half, with the deepening relationship between Iyemo and a slave, and exploration of the character’s self-destructiveness and dysfunctional family life, set against the backdrop of political and social upheaval, as another inhabited planet is discovered. While the ending was good in some ways, there were also fairy tale elements of family reconciliation that I just did not believe in.

Wow, another exciting saga of our Monster Squad heroes as they fight demons, wendigos, Lilith, and their own government. There are hard decisions to make, more surprises for Mark, and heartache for some. A super conclusion to this storyline with lots of hints for the future of the Monster Squad. Loved it!

Questions were answered but at a cost. Hints for future adventures were intertwined with resolutions. This is a great series and this book is my favorite! Yes there was sadness but non-stop action told by a true storyteller.

Disturbingly delightful while simultaneously being shockingly saddening By Twyla DeShazo I loved the majority of it, but was heartbroken over the demise of certain characters...but not everyone can survive every book, right? Sacrifices must be made... I still really enjoyed reading it and of course it was action packed, with shocking twists, and really awesome over all!!

An aging soldier haunted by memories of his bloody youth, Reheuel lives a sedate but contented life with his family. His peaceful world shatters, however, when a tribe of goblins threatens both Gath Odrenoch and the nearby Fairy City. While he has previously published several short stories and poems in literary journals such as Black Denim Literature and Emerge Literary Journal, Ariel’s Tear represents his first published novel. I find many works of fiction to be heavy on action and light on actually thinking. I won't say this is the opposite, because the story is well paced and engaging, set in a fantasy world easily deep enough for future books. But oddly enough the tensions between characters defending their ideals is where Ariel's Tear shone brightest. If the story is of a defense of innocence in a rough world, the book is a defense of that defense. I look forward to Justin's future works.

Lewis or Tolkien, Justin Rose invites the reader into a world of poignant beauty. The characters live and breathe on the page as they balance the tenuous task of protecting what is sacred from evil. The author masterfully ties in mankind's great philosophical struggles and through the clarity of prose, offers answers for today's world. By the end, the reader is left wishing the World of Rehavan truly existed.

As the goblins, fairies, and man fight for control of the 'tear', the resulting drama speaks out about how much and what we value and why in our world. I certainly hope that this is just the first in a long series. It won't be a circus without them.

The Beam: The Complete Third Season

In a future as bright as nuclear fire, even the puppet masters dance on strings. The battle over Shift — the electoral process that will decide the nation’s fate — is heating up, and both sides are fighting dirty. Micah and Isaac Ryan, the brothers sitting at each political party’s head, resort to tooth-and-nail tactics to eke out as many votes as possible. The Beau Monde observes everything, sticking their fingers in the pie only to change the flavor to their personal tastes. Everyone else has one simple goal: surviving the battle. Kai struggles with a job bigger than she’s ever faced, against a foe she can’t hope to outwit. Dominic, his law enforcement job precarious after betraying the drug runners he once smuggled for, must keep his head down even as he pokes his nose into the game of higher politics. And Nicolai, the unwitting harbinger of the Beam itself, concocts his own plots to overthrow the arrogant Ryans once and for all. Yet all their efforts — great and small alike — will pale in comparison to the oncoming storm, the cataclysmic return of one of history’s greatest figures. Someone from the Beam’s very conception is about to appear anew, and with humanity interconnected like never before, their footsteps will rock the NAU like a meteor strike. Shift is finally here. But even those who think they control its sway are not prepared for what happens next.

I'm a huge fan of The Beam, though I have to admit I worried they wouldn't be able to pull off yet another top-notch season. I mean, this is a complex story, lots of moving parts, and everything is set in the future. How do their brains not explode?I'm happy to say the authors did not disappoint. If you're a fan of The Beam, you'll enjoy the continuing saga, the closure of a few storylines, the opening of more, and a...well, I can't tell you the rest.Noah F-ing West! :OIf you haven't yet read Beam 1 or 2, buy them now, because you, my lucky duck, get to read all three seasons straight through without the wait in between like me. Can't wait for Beam 4!

I had a bit of space between season 2 and season 3, and that made the story a bit disjointed, so if its been a while since you read the last book, I'd recommend going back and reading them over, just to be sure you are keeping up with the story line.If you've read Seasons 1 and 2 of The Beam, you know that this is a complex story with many different players, and there are many stories within the story. In this book, we get a good look at some of the characters pasts, a better view of Rachel Ryan, more information on Kate, and we really get to know Sam Dial a lot better. The plot twist at the end was Epic. And I'm still trying to figure out if part of it was intentional. The book is fast paced and holds your attention very well. I was a big perplexed when they would jump "back in time" because, while this book is set in the future, its almost not far enough into the future to click as to a clear timeline. So I would really have to look at the dates at the start of each chapter to see where we were at.A lot of questions were answered - and as is typical of the authors, a lot more questions were asked. They did tidy up a lot from Season 2, and some parts of the book almost seemed rushed - like they just wanted to tuck in that loose end to get to the next part of the story - but over all, it was well written - the authors seem to get better with each book they write - and there were very few errors. I'm looking forward to Season 4.

Some of the best sci-fi I've read in a while By Jarkko Laine What I like best about sci-fi stories is the feeling when the world feels just out of the reach of my imagination: I feel like I couldn't have come up with this version of future myself, and I'm not quite sure how everything functions — but everything feels believable. And everything feels just right.I've been a fan of The Beam since the first season. The idea of The Switch and the two parties felt clever. And The Beam itself was a great mystery right from the beginning. But I must say that this third season is by far my favorite. The way some questions get answered is not easy, but it's thoroughly enjoyable. And in true Realm&Sands fashion, it's all told through the eyes of the people involved in the events. I've been cheering for Kai and Nicolai since the beginning, and now Sam Dial has become another favorite...I can't wait to see what happens to them in the next season!

Ring around the rosie, Pocket full a' posies, Ashes, Ashes We all fell down. --- The World was vibrant once. It was a thing of so much beauty, the Earth, that some beloved men and women would spend the liveliest days of their youths trying to capture just a piece of its majesty with paints and inks and film. It was a place of wondrous music; there were beasts and birds who howled, cooed, and called, who sang their songs beneath the silver-white still of a luminous moon. It was a place of grandmother-bakers and the decadent spells they wove with their confectionery magics for their children, and their children's children. It was a place of life, and of love. And it was magnificent. But all things must come to an end, and so it did. That world, the World That Was, died in a blaze that burnt the black from the dirt and bleached the sky as white as the so-clean bones beneath it. And when that world fell, its rules and its laws were overthrown too – the governance of Father Time and Mother Nature lies amongst the ashes at the feet of what remains. And what does remain? An unruly place, an impossible place where the dead might walk and their spirits may speak. A hard place of savagery, of unrest, of avarice; a place where murderers and scavengers make their homes. A place of mysticism and ruin, of superstition and predation. A twisted place. An ugly place. The World That Is. These are the stories of its victims and its champions - the survivors, the scroungers, the killers and the dreamers. --- Who: Sister, Chess, Treble, and a cast of characters across 9 short stories+*. What: An ambient collection of post-apocalyptic shorts. Add equal parts desperation, dying, and poetry to 2 parts sand. Shake well. Where: The World That Is, an unforgiving setting of blasted and wasting landscapes, unexplainable phenomena, and unfettered human squalor. Why: Well, why not? When: Now. How: Take the plunge and hand over your dollars! Any other questions? (*Secret bonus content?!) Cover art by Cassi Wilson.

Ashes, Ashes: Stories From the World That Is, by Adam Wassil

About the Author Here's my go-to "About the Author biography" for the basics: "Adam Wassil currently lives in the Memphis, TN area. He moved down south to be nearer to his parents in mid-2013 after graduating from Brandeis University with a Master of Arts in Cultural Anthropology. A more-or-less native of Northern Michigan (Northern Lower Peninsula, sorry Yoopers), he'd previously attended Central Michigan University, where he received Bachelors of Science degrees in both History and Anthropology. At the moment, he is employed in the Loss Prevention/Asset Protection field. In his free time, Adam is an avid videogamer and tabletop roleplayer, though he does enjoy the developmental process of gaming as well. As you'd expect, he also spends a fair bit of time reading and writing, both prose and poetry. When he's not gaming or playing with words, though, you can be sure that he's spending time with his girlfriend, Vernae. Thanks for your patience through this whole process, sweetie pie." The other important stuff: I like pizza, cheesecake, and sushi, but probably not all at the same time. I'm a Libra, I don't like football, and I'm really not a huge fan of crowds, either. I'm primarily a social gamer, so the PC is my platform of choice, and as far as tabletop games go, I'll play just about anything. No LARPs though, thanks. My favorite books are Stephen King's Dark Tower series, my favorite comics are Neil Gaiman's Sandman series, my favorite Playstation games are the Demons/Dark Souls series, my favorite PC game is probably League of Legends right now, and my favorite color is purple. Yeah, that's all the important stuff.

An Excellent Read, To Yourself or to Someone Else By Amazon Customer I have been a life-long fan of science fiction and dystopian literature, and I am exceedingly pleased to add Ashes to Ashes to my permanent collection. There are a great many new writers out there working in this genre and I think Adam Wassil is going to be one to watch. This work follows a number of interesting narrative threads that, regardless of where their themes take us, signify a distinct love of storytelling that is probably one of this book's many strengths. The characters are complex and interesting to follow, and whose depth and detail are adjusted according to the needs of the story so that the world that is can act as a compelling meta-commentary on the world that was without piling on too many additional side quests that would make the story lose focus. In many places, the writing style of Ashes to Ashes reminded me of old oral-storytelling traditions and some of the conventions occasionally took on a narrative quality much like that someone relaying a memory more than crafting fiction. I recommend this work for anyone who has interests not only in science fiction and post-apocalyptic literature, but anyone just looking for a good read.

His characters, with all their human flaws, are engaging and solid - variously inspiring sympathy or horror as they navigate the wasted World That Is. Wassil's writing is crisp and sensory: in places, it virtually crackles off the page. But perhaps my favorite element here is the composition of this work as a set of interwoven stories told from different perspectives, leaving the reader to fill in and imagine the non-written parts of the story-line. I'll be reading this book again, and looking forward to more from this author!

Not only does the book play with (and pulls off) structure, but also with the language of its characters. Like most of the book it is oddly familiar but strangely different from the lives we live today. It's one of those phonebooks you can read ones for entertainment, but go back over it several times and peel back the layers. Highly recommend this book.

I enjoyed all the aspects: the storyline, the drama, the characters & the action. I'll admit I was a bit surprised when it seemed the whole affair was finally heading toward that final battle scene in Earth's own orbit but it was not to be. The Tetron have made yet another surprising move and so... it's not over yet. Mr. Forbes will have to come up with something super exciting and very entertaining if he wants to pull off a fifth book in this series and not have it feel forced, monotonous, boring or trivial. If he doesn't then he may face the wrath of critics and the death of a truly well written and exciting series. However, I have every confidence Mr Forbes can pull it off. :)I appreciated the opportunity this book gave in getting to know Kathy. Mitch finally learns some history from her as well as some shocking news. There are more new discoveries for the fleet and yet more shock and sadness. This is one of the things I like about a series and that's the ongoing story, contact and interaction with many of your favorite characters but truth be told, this team is really taking a beating. I'm beginning to wonder how many or if any of them will survive the Tetron. No matter, their goal of saving the Earth and humankind has never been more resolute.Age: middle school age thru adult as long as the reader can handle stressful battle scenes, loss and/or death of characters. Editing: there were a few errors but not a lot and those were minor.Cover: more of your typical and generic space, Syfy, spaceship battle scene. I tend to like the brighter and more content specific covers rather than the more traditional cover.Series: there's no indication on authors site when the next book will be released. Also, Mrforbes.com site still under remodel.Sent from my iPhone

There are more twists and turns than a mountain road. The twist at the end will have you shaking your head. I did see a few editing errors, and this book did come out relatively fast following the Knife's Edge, but in no way did it stop my enjoyment of reading this novel. There is a perfect mix of ground and space based action. Mitchell Williams is running out of time to stop the Tetron, or is he? Read and find out. If you haven't read the 1st 3 novels in this series then you need to. They are all excellent and different from each other.

For a long time I procrastinated with the decision to start the first book "Starship Eternal" as sci-fi became redundant after reading so many similar books. However M R Forbes has shown very good writing ability and I've decided to give it a try. Five days later I was done with all four books and am waiting anxiuosly for the next one. Try it and if you like a good and well written sci-fi with action, suspense, interesting characters and a well thought of premises, you will enjoy it immensely. Five
