That's a rare occurrence, but here, the emotional weight of the characters is right on par with the flying bullets and ship explosions. You'll probably need to read the previous novels in Nathaniel Danes' series -- but get some tissues ready. There will be tears.After all that, though, this story has an exhilarating tone of hopefulness. How did that get in a brutal military story? I didn't expect it, and that's a good thing. I started it before going to bed and the need to read kept me awake part of the night. I enjoyed the three books, the storyline and everything in between. Thanks to the author for providing such a good story and giving us, the readers, a chance to be a part of the story as we are swept along during the reading. Thanks much again to the author.

Amazing By Samie Sands I love The Last Hero trilogy so, so much, and I was really looking forward to this book...and it was just as good as I'd imagined it would be! There is science fiction, romance, war, all entangled with each other in this epic plot that twists and turns until the mind blowing conclusion. I highly recommend the entire series, it's amazing!

This book was like only thirty pages long, wasn't even in diary format, had some things that weren't in minecraft, and it was still totally awesome! Please write longer books. About the Author Basil King attended Black Mountain College as a teenager in the 1950s, and completed an apprenticeship as an abstract expressionist painter in San Francisco and New York. Although he did not begin to write regularly until 1986, an involvement with poetry has always been part of his life, first in doing art to accompany poems in books and magazines, later as a book artist. Today he is a working poet/painter. Some of his paintings can be seen on the website www.basilking.net or on his Flickr site: King New333. Enlightenment for Over-Programmed Christians By Bacchus This is a wonderful old book filled with profound observations about Western man's relationship with God. Written by a post-Victorian intellectual mystic, who happened to be a production designer by trade, this book recounts the author's salvation from near-suicidal depression via a personal mystical experience. The insights gained through that experience inspired this book, which attacks the stagnant relationship modern Christians share with God. He exhorts the reader to open up to a richer and more meaningful interpretation of Christ's teachings, relying more on his recorded words and less on the intercession of stilted preachers who have lost all connection with his original teachings in favor of their myopic cultural programming. At their best, King's words attain the power of elegant, inspirational poetry. At their worst, they retain a few scant traces of Western cultural chauvinism, although it seems likely this pose was adopted to appeal to his intended target. If you're looking for accessibly written clues to life, this is worth a look. Stay with it to the end, it gets deeper and more impressive as it goes on. And don't be put off if you're agnostic -- King is as much an evolutionist as he is a true believer.

It Just Keeps Getting Better By Amazon Customer A definite improvement after the first novel (which was very good, especially for an, as she calls herself, 'overworked college student'). The story sets itself up to be a nice quick read with plenty of scene changes to keep things moving along. There are typos, (but not as many as the first one!) and they must be accepted and overlooked. They do not detract from the story.The book acts as one big chunk of character development, as well as introducing some new characters on top of those from Book 1. All of them are offered a moment or more than one to shine. Our excellent lead, Minnie, is once more tested and tried, keeping the audience on the edge of their seat. I am very excited to see where this twisting story takes her in the future. If you are at all considering purchasing the novel, I recommend it wholeheartedly. Jump aboard what is sure to be a great ride!As a young writer myself, I am thrilled by the author's hard work and success! I hope The Antagonists grows to become a long career for this talented individual who surely has more stories to tell us. I plan to be right there, ready for the next book.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. A wonderful sequel to The Antagonists By Angeline C. A wonderful sequel to The Antagonists: Book One that will fill you with glee after reading. Honestly, I really wish by that one day the series gets popular enough to have a comic/illustrated novel adaptation because it's so exciting to read that it reminds me of a superhero story. (Okay, yeah, it is a superhero story but imagine it in picture. Imagine. Or like on tv. Or just any way for me to hear this story again but in a new way because I just have so much love for it.)It's definitely worth the read and is a great continuation of the series. Minnie is a relatable character who reacts like a regular human being (thank God) and has flaws like everyone else. Her friendship with Victor is realistic and there's a point where they argue about something and I just wanted to cry out "Thank you for somebody writing a story where people at least try to communicate their issues!".So, yeah. I love this series please but it and cry with me about Victor/Minnie.

This book is miles better than the first(Which was amazing) By Colin This book is miles better than the first(Which was amazing), the writing style has improved immensely, and I loved finding out more about the order of merlin. I found Victor's past extremely interesting, and would probably read a book all about him and his family in a heartbeat. And it was great seeing more of Nicholas and Perry, who are my favorite characters. I would love to hear more about the types of magic and how it works. Arthur's challenges were both interesting and horrifying, and there were multiple scenes that made me cheer internally or laugh out loud. my one qualm would be that in a book that discusses how nothing is black and white, Arthur is a bit too evil to fit that theme. Aside from that, amazing book, can't wait for the next one.

The history and beauty to these books are amazing, the way the author wrote them is so wonderful. It's one of the best fantasy books I have ever read. I often wonder how come these books aren't more popular or known?

There is nothing a hundredth part as corny in this beautifully and stylishly written book By Patricia Morrison The verso copy for this book is really misleading. "Wedded slave of a barbarian king", forsooth! There is nothing a hundredth part as corny in this beautifully and stylishly written book. The imaginative detail is lovely, as is the late Ms. Wilder's prose, and the characters quickly become people you wish you knew. The landscape descriptions are some of the best bits, but so is the extraordinary social structure and use of magic. It's been one of my favorite books ever since I first read it, and I only wish the author had lived to write many more.

2 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Interesting By Austenparker Ms. Wilder creates a world which she expounds upon throughout her next two novels, Yorath the Wolf & the Summer King. This is not the best-written, nor the best conceived fantasy which I've ever had the privilege of encountering. However, if you have the time & happen to encounter it, the I'd recommend reading this series. The books have their draggy parts, but overall there are some very interesting premises, imaginative techniques employed & can be sometimes very unpredictable.

To my delight the series continues!!!!!! I loved that this book brought us back to the beginning. To have some history to explain the relationships between everyone in the house makes the characters more understandable in their thoughts and actions. Some of my questions were finally answered and of course now I have so many more that I'm dying to know the answers to as well. I will anxiously be waiting to read the next book in the Alignment series!!!!!!!

By Caveat Lector (I read an uncorrected proof for review) This a worthy successor to the previous "Castle Perilous" novels in the series. Engaging characters, energetic pacing and plenty of exotic locales keep the story moving. The dialogue is clever and snappy and never cliched. If you like your fantasy novels told with equal amounts of humor and intelligence, you will love The Pirates of Perilous.

By John T Eubank III I started reading Castle Perilous books back in college, drawn to the first one by its playful cover art. The content inside matched and surpassed the cover, and I was hooked. It's been a long time since we've seen a new Castle Perilous series book, and I'm glad this one has come along. It's quite possibly the best of the series. It's very imaginative, the twists and turns are delightful and entertaining, and it revises the familiar characters marvelously while adding well-crafted new ones. Some of the tricks the "castle" pulls are stellar--and I will stop so I won't spoil them. A very satisfying read. Even if you haven't read the old series, you will quickly figure out what's going on and enjoy this book. If you like Terry Pratchett or Asprin, there's an excellent chance you'll like Pirates of Perilous.

True- that's 'cause this book has both Voodoo AND Romero zombies (actually those are more like ghouls, but never mind, the book explains it all). Witches! Wizards! Sorcerers! Swordfights! Gunfights! Gangsters! and a 8 foot tall intelligent Yeti who mixes one hellavu mean drink- one that'll either rip your head right off or send you straight to the Bates Motel.John DeChancie has done it again- written another rip-roaring, swashbuckling adventure set in Castle Perilous- the One, the Only, the Castle with 144000 doors, each which leads to another world (and one of them is ours). Wait you say- you haven't read Castle Perilous, the first book in the series yet? Then run, don't walk- and buy yourself a copy of that wonderful lighthearted and phantasmagorical book.This is Book Nine, by the way, of the Castle Perilous Series, each being a stand-alone adventure and fun read. Some are adventure, some are more humorous and some are even decent mysteries. It's not absolutely necessary to read them all in order, but you DO need to read Castle Perilous, the first book, first.Very readable, lighthearted with more than a few chuckles, and with a number of little in-jokes for those who enjoy literature and pop-culture.

About the Author Tina L. Peterson has been fighting gravity her whole life. The idea for Oscar's tale first took root many years ago, when Tina saw a municipal truck labeled "Gravity Services" parked in front of the house. She never did figure out what that truck was doing, but ever since that day, her imagination has played with the idea of turning gravity off, even if only for a little while. Tina has a Ph.D. in mass media and communication from Temple University and is on the leadership council of the National Association for Media Literacy Education. 0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. A Funny Gravity Book By Christine Meads Oscar is a klutz. He trips over things, knocks things over, and spills things. He is the kind of kid that all kids can relate to and even us adults. He is bullied by the bigger kids and has one really good friend (Asha) who doesn't care if he's a klutz.One day, Oscar heads home a different way, because he doesn't want to run into the bullies from school. He stumbles on an old caboose with the help of a raccoon. He tries to get inside but can't because the door is rusted shut. After getting a spray and wanting to head to the caboose the next day, Asha wants to go with him. He finally relents. They get the door open and find all kinds of things inside. One is a mysterious bottle labeled Gravity Repellent. The two kids try it on a rock and watch as it floats. Oscar has a lot of things he wants to do with the spray and one time, it gets him in trouble. But when the bullies find the caboose, Oscar gets really mad, and the one thing he does isn't what he should have done. Could too much of something cause a lot of problems? Got to read this funny book to find out.I think most kids would find this book fun to read. And there are a few lessons they can see that Oscar learns that they can learn too. I recommend this book to all kids.I won this book from a Goodreads Giveaway.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. A Clutzy Child Finds a Solution By Grateful Grandma This is a great book for kids, especially those that feel klutzy or left out or bullied. Oscar is that child that trips over his own feet, daydreams and is teased and bullied by the older boys. He has one good friend, Asha, and she is wonderful. When Oscar tries to take a different way home from school to avoid the bullies, he finds an abandoned train caboose. He is unable to get inside so goes back the next day with spray to help loosen the latch. He finds lots of interesting items in the caboose as well as figuring out that it belonged to a Maagician of sorts. He goes to get Asha and together they find several cans of Gravity Repellant. They realize that it will help them float and they begin to have some interesting adventures. Oscar finds out that if he sprays some on his feet and lower legs, he no longer trips and falls all the time. When the bully finds the caboose, Oscar makes a bad decision to keep him from discovering what is inside. Through these adventures, Oscar realizes that he is not a complete klutz and he can stand up for himself with the bullies. A great story with a few good lessons.I received a copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

By Claudia Svartefoss The action is happening on different planet, where humanity has now come to live. Here they encounter the planet’s natural inhabitants, and we find out about a starship crash, where the survivors teach humans about “magic.” The different species evolve, and we then learn about the new species and their customs throughout the book.We find out about the Special Reserve Humans who were sold because of their high quality, about magic demonstrations, and other fascinating details about this new world.I loved reading about the main character’s adventures as he finds his way through the complicated world of politics and magic he finds himself in. Very well written, I couldn’t put this book down! I can’t wait for the next book in the series!

The beginning captured my attention right away. I liked the characters and the world seemed complete with enough mysteries to keep me wondering. The social concepts in the book have depth and it seems there is room for the story to expand in many directions. The writing reminds me Anne McCaffrey's work, which is high praise from me since she is one of my most favorite authors.Another plus is that the Kindle version is basically error-free. I have been reading so many Kindle books that they don't appear to be edited at all. It is pleasant to find one that doesn't distract with missing words and errors.I do have to note that the cover art, however, gives the impression of being a book for a very young audience, which it is not.

By Glenda Prysock I found this book to be a dellightful fantasy with some interesting and unexpected plot twists. The main character, Tiene is a young man with a bright future ahead of him that suddenly goes in a completely new direction when his masters, the elf-like Aoife decide he should be a "stud" and he is gifted to the heir to a large estate. His new master is decidedly "odd" and reacts to the magic storms in a unique way. The characters and pacing of the story kept me engaged and I enjoyed the author's very different take on humanity's place in the universe of the future. A charming fantasy by a new author and I can't wait to read the next installment!

It may have been the fact that she has been to New York and could relate with all the places mentioned. These books are adventurous with great characters and always gets my daughter thinking on a deeper level about friendship and looking at things positively.

Facing off against monsters of every kind is the Teams thing, and this time it's a nasty werewolf. I especially enjoy the backstory--why, when and how this particular monster came to be. The bantering between teammates and all their quirks balances the darkness the story espouses.If you've read the first 3 books in this series, you will enjoy this adventure with the Guardians.

Once again Mr. Clary has written a winner! Jax and the gang are back in action and this time the bad guys go after their loved ones! If you haven't read the series grab book one and get started. One of my favorite series! Jax is a great character and along with the action their is humor that is done exceptionally well. Thank you Mr. Cleary and I hope Jax and the rest of the gang have more adventures soon!
