Last year Big Finish started a new range in which we created new old stories: inventive new tales featuring actors from the show's early years, with full cinematic sound design to give an effect of these shows reaching you from the past...This year four fresh releases in the range visit the hugely regarded Second Doctor era: On a research station near a black hole, time keeps standing still. Investigating the phenomenon, the Doctor discovers a power far greater than any of the monsters that challenge him on his travels...The Doctor's own people. With the safety of thousands balancing out the need to flee, and a policeman from his home planet working at his side, the Doctor reluctantly finds himself involved in a race against time. But nothing is ever as simple as it appears. And if you can use the Doctor's compassion against him, you have the makings of a perfect trap. Frazer Hines revisits his role as Jamie, a companion of the Second Doctor (played on television by Patrick Troughton) back in 1966-69. Rufus Hound is one of Britain's premier comedians and actors, from famously winning Let's Dance for Sports Relief, to his announced appearance in the next series of TV's Doctor Who...Janet Dibley will be familiar as the long-suffering Elaine opposite Nicholas Lyndhurst in sitcom The Two of Us. David Warner is a veritable god of stage and screen, with Sci-Fi fans particularly familiar with his work in Doctor Who, Star Trek, Time Bandits, Tron, Babylon 5, and Penny Dreadful. CAST: Frazer Hines (Jamie McCrimmon/The Doctor), Deborah Watling (Victoria Waterfield), Rufus Hound (Constable Pavo), Janet Dibley (Commander Flail), (Anthony Keetch (The Seeth). Narrated by David Warner.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. The Doctor and Victoria at a Black Hole By Adam Graham, Superhero and Detective Fiction Author By far, the best of this Season's Early Adventures. The story opens with the Doctor, Jamie, and Victoria landing on a space ship affected by a Black Hole and they run right into the Doctor's people. This is just a superb script. The portrayal of Victoria is probably the best I've heard in Big Finish as it really gives her a strong portrayal. The story plays with some fascinating Sci Fi concepts in the Black Hole and how it effects time. The script has a lot of twists, turns, and surprises and a great sense of mystery with the return of an old foe. Guerrier really keeps this in balance and manages to do a lot of very bold things while still keeping with existing continuity. I did have mixed feelings of the portrayal of one returning character as his actions seemed a little rougher than he usually operated. The cast is strong, with a few minor issues. Deborah Wattling can't really bring her voice back to where it was when she was on television, and Frazier Hines's 2nd Doctor voice occasionally slips, However, that's more than made up for by overall good performances and a strong supporting cast highlighted by Janet Dibley.
