Review "SLOW BOAT TO THE BAHAMAS made me feel the tropical sun on the back of my neck, with the added bonus of a treasure-trove of local information!" --Glenn Damato author of BREAKING SEAS

From the Inside Flap Empty

From the Back Cover "SLOW BOAT TO THE BAHAMAS documents the journey of a non-boat owner through the purchase of his first sailboat, on to Florida and eventually through the Bahamas. It is a detailed, and starkly honest account of a cruising couple with a child and dog, and what they overcame to fulfill their dream. The author kept meticulous records that will benefit anyone considering the same adventure." --Ed Robinson, author of LEAP OF FAITH: QUIT YOUR JOB AND LIVE ON A BOAT "SLOW BOAT TO THE BAHAMAS was a pleasant surprise. The insights into why people like us 'go out there' in boats is brought into crystal clarity in a way that is both entertaining and informative. The humor with which he tells this tale makes the pages fly by." --Bob Bitchin, publisher of CRUISING OUTPOST MAGAZINE

Moulder I was annoyed through most of the book because of the unecessary money they spent on a trip to the Bahamas. I can't imagine going to the Bahamas, always trying to get a slip, not snorkeling, and worrying about sand on your feet and in your boat. However, it made me appreciate the knowledge I already have and what not to do on my trip to the Bahamas. It was fun, informative and a fairly reasonable source of info for a cruise to the Bahamas. I would suggest he hire an English major at the college to proof read the book before publishing. There were way too many punctuation errors, mispelled words, run on sentences, and paragraphs that talked about more than one subject.

By Cecil Rogers I have had extensive experience in the Bahamas from Grand Cays to Grand Turk and in all that time, on a variety of sailboats ranging from 27 to 50 feet, I don't think I used as much fuel, water and laundry as Mr. Wilson's three months. I can't recall that he ever hoisted sail without at least two reefs. He mentions wanting to avoid a " two-foot chop" and of the wind "howling at 20 knots". An entire chapter was used to analyze the size, crew number and age, and distance from home ports in exhaustive and boring detail. For anyone contemplating a sail to the Bahamas, I would advise them to ignore everything in this book. In all the time he was away, he never learned the proper way to anchor, dock or undock.

All the foibles and nuances rolled into one tome make this a great first effort and we hope that there are more to come. A little slow in spots with sometimes what might sound like "high handed" opinions of other boaters and service personnel along the way; I hope not all the marinas and experiences boaters have in the Bahamas are as dissatisfying as some of this poor guys were/seemed to be! If we could all live this little slice of life he, his wife and darling daughter had, we would be all the better for it. Buy this book and enjoy it. Not only is it a good tale, but there is a ton of useful information in it too!
