An informed introduction to the Christie phenomenon, updated to include new material on the final Poirot adaptation series and Sophie Hannah's The Monogram Murders Since her debut in 1920 with The Mysterious Affair At Styles, Agatha Christie has become the chief proponent of the English village murder mystery. Although she created two enormously popular characters—the Belgian detective Hercule Poirot, and the inquisitive elderly spinster and amateur sleuth Miss Jane Marple of St Mary Mead—it is not generally acknowledged that she wrote in many different genres: comic mysteries (Why Didn't They Ask Evans?), atmospheric whodunits (Murder On The Orient Express), espionage thrillers (N or M?), romances (under the pseudonym of Mary Westmacott), plays (The Mousetrap), and poetry. She was never afraid to break the rules either, and provoked a storm of controversy with the unorthodox resolution of The Murder Of Roger Ackroyd, now acclaimed as one of the classics of British crime fiction. Christie wrote complex whodunits in a clear, readable style, which is why her books are as popular now as they were 80 years ago. Exemplary film and TV adaptations (Peter Ustinov and David Suchet as Poirot, Margaret Rutherford, and Joan Hickson as Miss Marple), have also encouraged new readers to search out her work. The film, TV, and stage adaptations are listed in this guide, and appendices point readers to books and websites where they can find out more.

Review "Everything you ever wanted to know about Christie’s stories in incredible detail." —Glasgow Evening Times
From the Publisher Pocket Essentials is a dynamic series of books that are short, snappy, and easy to read. Packed with facts as well as opinions, each book has all the key information you need to know about such popular topics as film, television, cult fiction, politics, and more. In addition to an introduction to the subject, each topic is individually analyzed and reviewed, examining its impact on popular culture or history. There’s also a reference section that lists related web sites and weightier (and more expensive) books on the subject. For media buffs and students, these are great entry–level books that build into an essential library.
About the Author Mark Campbell is theatre critic for the Kentish Times, has written for the Independent, Midweek and Crime Time, and is one of the main contributors to the two-volume British Crime Writing: An Encyclopedia. He has produced Pocket Essentials on Sherlock Holmes, Agatha Christie and Carry On Films.

By Avonna The Pocket Essential Agatha Christie by Mark Campbell is a useful short book for an introduction to Agatha Christie’s life and all of her works. For those of us who love Agatha Christie and want to check to see if we have read everything about Hercule Poirot, Miss Marple or one of her plays, this book is a great reference. It also includes her romances written under her Mary Westmacott pseudonym. This book is what it says it is, a pocket essential, short and to the point. I find it useful to remind me of a favorite story or to chronologically read her works. I enjoyed Mr. Campbell’s rating of the works, also.Thank you to Trafalgar Square Publishing, Oldcastle Books and Net Galley for the free ebook in exchange for an honest review.

The first part is a short biography but if you are a Christie fan there will not be any new information here. More of the book is an overview of Christie books, plays, movies and other related Christie works. The book is up to date. The author gives short description of the work and also gives a rating on the work. If you are a Christie fan and want a quick reference this book will find a place on your bookshelf. EnjoyI received a copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review

By Critterbee A complete listing of all of Agatha Christie's various publications in order, with cross-referencing.The book begins with a short biography of Agatha Christie, which left me wanting to learn more about her so interesting life. Then it plunges into a listing of all titles, in series order, with overviews of recurring characters.Never fear, there are no spoilers, and no deep analysis. I rather think this would be more appreciated by those who have read more of her books.**eARC netgalley**
