WELL WORTH THE WAIT By Shell Oz I did not think that Michaelbrent Collings could do it - give this series a deserving conclusion - but he absolutely has. As per his usual amazing ability to get you fully absorbed in to the characters, you will be on the edge of your seat and holding your breath many, many times. This book was an absolute surprise to me.... I just could not visualise where it was going. To say that I feel satisfied, is an understatement. I am not the type of reader that usually chooses a book series to read, because I am impatient and do not like waiting for the next installment, but because I enjoy this author's writing so much, I got "sucked in". This is a zombie tale very different to any other out there. Very clever and fast paced. You really get very little "break time" before you are holding that breath again. For those that have read the other Colony books, you will not be disappointed. If you haven't read them, do yourself a favor and get them. After you have read ANY of Michaelbrent Collings books, you will be hooked. His style of writing is refreshing in the horror genre. This man is very clever, witty and writes some downright horrific and awesome tales. I actually think that I am going to miss waiting for the next Colony book. Thank you Mr Collings for the deserving ending you gave to this series bwah ha ha!

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. He did it again.... By Bonanza43 I too am not typically a series reader, but I had to make an exception with this author, he is just that talented. You feel as though you are right there in the book, the whole gut-wrenching way.I have read every word of these and if forced to sum them up in one word it would be OUTSTANDING! I have also read several, if not all of his other works and he never fails to entertain and thrill me in this monumental way.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Best of the best, keep up the good work. By Carolyn The best series of books that I ever read. I am in the middle of the last one and on pins and needles waiting to get to the end. You better not kill Christopher. Honest, Mr. Collings, you have made my heart pound, my eye tear up. I loved every minute of it. Thanks for sharing your talent with me and all your other fans. Please keep writing. Carolyn

I was hooked on this series after reading book one. In book two, the author immediately grabs the reader's attention from the first sentence. A complex story line leads to very well developed characters. There is suspense, there is politics, there is paranormal abilities, there's a cliff hanger, as well as a bit of romance. I anxiously await the next book in the Logan Bringer series..

It's cliffhanger ending making me eager for volume three the author, Jaz Primo, also writes an exciting paranormal vampire series, however I find the super-hero traits of the BRINGER character more relatable and compelling. I recommend this book to all readers.

Due to the author's style in writing these books (same time line told from two different perspectives), I know many of the unexplained events will be detailed in companion novel Of Dawn & Darkness (which I believe is due out in October). This eliminates any angst of wondering how and why a certain character is working for an opposing guild. Great read and well developed characters. I eagerly anticipate the next installment.

Mission: Tomorrow (BAEN), by Jack McDevitt, Mike Resnick, Ben Bova, Brenda Cooper, Michael F. Flynn, Sarah A. Hoyt, James E. Gunn, Robin Wayne Bailey, Jack Skillingstead

Review "This collection will appeal to a wide range of readers, who will appreciate the diversity of stories from such writers as Jack McDevitt, Alex Shvartsman, Brenda Cooper, Sarah A. Hoyt, Mike Resnick, and more. With the release of The Martian starring Matt Damon and the soon-to-be-televised series based on James S.A. Corey's "Expanse" space operas, this anthology serves as a solid introduction to a classic genre."--Library Journal"These 19 often satirical, sometimes hopeful stories depict a variety of near futures...Editor Schmidt adds Grandmasters to a mix of newer and established names and balances the tragic with the humorous." -- Publisher's Weekly "There's a lot of variety here...a nice, meaty anthology ofspace travel tales that has something for everyone." = Don Sakers, Analog"Mission: Tomorrow is an anthology that explicitly places itself near SF's core - straightforward stories set in the near future, most focusing on Solar System exploration - and it's quite successful, with a set of a consistently entertaining stories." -- Rich Horton, LocusMission: Tomorrow is a novel-length collection of short stories compiled by Bryan Thomas Schmidt, which center on the continuing theme of developments in space exploration. Toeing that interesting line where science fiction often becomes science fact, these nineteen very different but equally accomplished tales take the reader on a journey through a very realistic future where humans continue to explore and capitalize on space travel. Both global and political in its viewpoint, the anthology champions human endeavour, but looks at both the light and dark sides of a universe of possibilities. Schmidt's selection and editing of the collection allows the stories to flow in a linear progression, guiding the reader from the farthest stars to the strange terrain of planets beneath our feet.I wish I had room to discuss all of the stories in this fine collection. Bryan Thomas Schmidt has done a superb job in selecting equally balanced tales from highly talented writers who really abide by the traditional rules of science fiction. I quite often felt as though I was reading Asimov whilst enjoying this immense volume, and can offer no greater compliment than that. For me, the standout story came from Jaleta Clegg - The Ultimate Space Race - in which the familiar demons of our 'reality' obsessed contemporary world extend out into space travel to create a massive commercial and social nightmare. I particularly enjoyed meeting so many interesting and original characters throughout Mission: Tomorrow, as well as exploring the human perspective of space through many different perspectives. Hard core science fiction fans must read this book. -- Reviewed by K.C. Finn for Readers' Favorite

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Entertaining collection of science fiction stories by a remarkable collection of writers By Louise Marley In this outstanding collection of stories, the narratives begin at the outer edge of the solar system and move inward through the fascinating and difficult landscape of planets and moons and asteroids. This is a group of some of today's best science fiction writers, imagining how humans might manage the exploration and even, in some cases, the development and monetization of space. In fact, the privatization of space exploration is a recurring theme in this anthology. All the stories are good, but a few stand out to this reader. Jack McDevitt's "Excalibur" is a terrific mystery with political overtones. Alex Shvartsman, in "The Race for Arcadia" , gave me goosebumps with its chilling tale of an approach to space travel I won't describe so as not to spoil it. I don't want to ruin your own chills! Aussie writer Lezli Robyn, in "A Walkabout Among the Stars", gives us a startling and alarming first contact tale."In Panic Town, on the Backward Moon," is an offering by Michael F. Flynn, a charmingly-written mystery in space, with good science fiction and a noir-style voice. Joleta Clegg gives us "The Ultimate Space Race", a nice change of pace from the hard-bitten sf style of most of the stories, and one that supports the suggestion of a number of these writers that there will be commercial aspects to the exploration of space--in her case, in the shape of a reality television show with lots and lots and lots of advertising.SF stalwart Michael Capobianco, in "Airtight", does a fine job of illuminating privatized space exploration. James Gunn, in "The Rabbit Hole", describes a weird and wonderful trip down a wormhole, a rabbit hole in space leading to a bizarre Wonderland. Sarah A. Hoyt's story, "On Edge", is the tale of three young nerds competing for a corporate prize who cause a world of trouble with their efforts. As a fan of character-driven fiction, two stories in this solid collection stand out for me: Jack Skillingstead's "Tribute" pursues the oft-visited them of privatized space exploration, but as I've always found with his work, the characters come alive, and the plot has a satisfying little revenge twist. The other story, Brenda Cooper's wonderful "Iron Pegasus" also features characters that come alive--but they're robots, charming beings struggling to find a way past the classic paradox of allowed robot behavior. I received an advance copy of this collection, and I'm glad I did. Kudos to editor Bryan Thomas Schmidt for the variety and inclusiveness of this anthology. Highly recommended.

By Steve Pantazis This is a fantastic anthology comprised of extremely well-written short stories about space travel. It gives the reader a wide range of writing styles from top-grade authors, and includes stories that are serious, funny, fast-paced, futuristic, evocative and downright interesting. If you love space-faring adventures, this is a must read. Hugo-nominated editor, Bryan Thomas Schmidt did a fantastic job curating this collection of short stories, and the anthology is sure to garner considerable praise among notables in the sci-fi field. I loved it, and I know you will too!

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Tasty Concept, Enjoyable Reads By Mark Penny Maybe it's because I recently read Andy Weir's The Martian (edited by Schmidt), but I rather hoped that the stories in this anthology would be less whimsical and more suggestive of what we might do to actually get off our planetary backside and plant an outsole on the next step to the stars. However, if you embrace the whimsy, all the stories are good and some are excellent--and the question of how to proceed with the dream does get some attention.

In Jilly’s journey from being the junkie street kid she was, to the cheerful character we know from later Newford tales, she navigates the perils of loyalty to old friends versus new ones. Facing hard choices, Jilly must decide whether she's worthy of genuine friendship, promises, and life itself. Promises to Keep is a beautiful new chapter in Jilly's story. De Lint perfectly captures the voice and character of Jilly at this early point in her life, and allows readers a glimpse of her journey to become the person we know from the later Newford Tales. It's that becoming that is the focus of Promises to Keep. De Lint lets us see the choices Jilly makes, as well as how and why she makes them, as she starts to build a life that she can be proud of. She navigates the perils of old friendships, and the joys of new ones as she learns that she's worthy of making—and keeping—promises. —Endicott Studio Since his earliest Newford tales, de Lint has been sketching out his portrait of Jilly. The intriguing, enigmatic figure grew clearer and more defined with each story, and with the publication of Widdershins and The Onion Girl, some readers might have thought there was nothing more to tell. But, as the title of this story suggests, Jilly has miles to go before she sleeps. The character has an incredible, perhaps endless number of layers, and each is fresh and exciting. In this case, the young runaway, recovered addict and budding artist does not yet believe in magic or mystery in the world; that impression is about to change.” —Rambles.net If you are already familiar with Newford’s residents, Promises to Keep provides a lovely glimpse into their past, and how they came to know one another. Readers new to de Lint’s work will find this book an easy introduction to the magical world of Newford. — Journal of Mythic Arts “In his novella Promises to Keep, Charles de Lint returns to the early days of one of his most beloved Newford characters, Jilly Coppercorn. For fans this will be a delight well worth seeking out but teen readers who have a chance to read it should not pass it up….a classic peek into the wonder that is Newford.” — Bookslut It’s poignant, it’s moving, it makes you want to be a better person, and all in all, it’s pure de Lint. — SF Site De Lint’s elegant prose and effective storytelling continue to transform the mundane into the magical at every turn. — Library Journal [De Lint] clearly has no equal as an urban fantasist. — Booklist Lucid writing and well-realized characters. — Publishers Weekly

They were friends when both resided at the Tyson County Home for Wayward Girls. Excited Donna, who plays bass, invites Jilly to watch her band Big Earl and His Girls perform at Cool Hand Jukes.Jilly's friend Geordie who plays music says there is no such place at the locale described by Donna. He cannot accompany her as he has a gig so Jilly goes to the biker club alone. There she finds the dead relive their lives the way they wished they had the first time. Having overcome addiction and position, Jilly considers staying in what seems like paradise, but has not thought of how she would want her do over especially since this is a one way gig for a person who chooses to cross over btcause there is no return ticket. This is an excellent intelligent Newford tale as Jilly reflects back on her bittersweet salad days as J.C. at the Home, her current status, and her future goals. Thought provoking while character driven by Jilly and Donna, fans will ponder choices that people make or have made for them. Although exciting as a supernatural thriller, it is the philosophy of to be or not to be that is the musing.Harriet Klausner

I've read (and own) as many of his books as I've been able to find. When Promises to Keep showed up in the mail, I had to squee (and I did)! Okay, okay - enough gushy stuff :-DPromises to Keep is another Newford story focusing on Jilly Coppercorn - a girl who has reinvented herself after living through so much childhood trauma. She's doing well with school and work and coming into her own with her art. Then one day, Jilly runs into her only friend during the time she was in the system - Donna Birch. Donna invites her to come listen to her play at a club a few nights later and when Jilly gets there, she enters a world she never knew existed...will she stay or will she go home to Newford?Jilly's always been one of my favorite characters and Promises to Keep is a great showcase for her personality and more of her history. You can always learn a lesson from Mr. de Lint's book and this time Jilly learns that things aren't always what they seem on the surface. Please pick up Promises to Keep (and every other de Lint book you can find) - you will not be disappointed!!

The narrative is split between a typical urban fantasy plotline, and flashbacks to Jilly's struggle to reclaim her life from the difficulties of her past.Unfortunately, the curtailed length of the novella prevents either of these storylines from ever reaching full potential. The flashbacks felt like connecting the dots, filling in the last remaining gaps in our knowledge of Jilly's life between her childhood and her fully formed adult persona. There isn't much of an arc for her here, or rather, the arc we get is too big to be supported by the short scenes that present it.The other plotline was stronger, and is quintessential Charles de Lint. Unfortunately, most of the atmosphere he created was squandered at the end by a consequence-free, deus ex machina ending.I would not recommend that a new reader start Charles de Lint here. But I enjoyed it as one last chance to visit a favorite character, which is always welcome.

At first glance, Spring of 2013 couldn't have been a more inopportune time for brothers Landon and Cory Roussel to walk the historic Camino de Santiago. Landon had a newborn child at home and had just completed medical school, ready to stay at home and relax with his new son before beginning residency. Cory, on the other hand, had just been released from Federal prison and had neither a job nor a penny to his name. On closer inspection, however, the time could not have been better for these two brothers, separated for over ten years by Cory's addiction and imprisonment, to walk the Way of St James. After much to do with flight planning, route mapping and child-care arranging, these two brothers finally manage to get to Spain, where they embark together from Oviedo into the mountains of Asturias Spain on the Primitive Way to Santiago. As they encounter torrential rains, blindsiding blizzards and grueling climbs, the author comes to find that the real challenge is not to endure the elements but to reconcile with each other after a tumultuous past. Will the two brothers reconcile? Or will they be driven further apart? Is healing possible after enduring such hurt from wounds inflicted by Cory's addiction? These are some of the questions Landon wrestles with in this riveting tale as he chronicles their journey through the Asturian Mountains. In this page-turning memoir, Roussel captures not only his and his brother's story but also the story of many who struggle to connect with loved ones when their loved ones fall down in life ..."None of us are guaranteed a future with our loved ones," he writes. "If we don't cherish moments with them for what they are, we risk not cherishing our loved ones for who they are, but rather who we want them to be." On the Primitive Way is a moving, heart-warming reflection on the challenge of loving someone close even as they struggle and of finding joy in each day's journey.

On the Primitive Way, by Landon Roussel

Review " On the Primitive Way is the first Camino memoir to chronicle not only the Way of Saint James but also the way of two brothers: their separation, reuniting and healing on their pilgrimage."--Martin Sheen, award-winning actor starring in  The Way (2010)"After eleven centuries of history, the pilgrimage still has the ability to work 'miracles.' This is what Cory and Landon experienced as pilgrims in On the Primitive Way. Passing the seven mountain passes that occur between Oviedo and Santiago, a metaphor for the difficulties in life they had to overcome, they were able to find at the end peace, true brotherhood and harmony with nature."--Antón Pombo Rodriguez, best-selling author of Camino guidebooks"If you've walked El Camino from Saint Jean, On the Primitive Way will make you want to walk it from Oviedo."--Kurt Koontz, Author of A Million Steps"On the Primitive Way is more than another Camino memoir, it is a story of two brothers, estranged by addiction and reconciled on the Way. Anyone who has had a family member or loved on suffering from addiction will relate to Landon's description of his struggle to love his brother even when he continues to fall deeper into substance abuse."--Beatriz Gonzales-Stephan, Lee Hage Jamail Chair in Latin American Studies, Rice University

From the Back Cover "Addiction, Estrangement and Reconciliation on the Primitive Way."

Very Rewarding By Rebecca I received a copy of this book as a beta reader for the purposes of providing critical feedback to the author prior to release. The decision to review was my own. What struck me the most was while I was expecting the plot to reveal what Cory had learned about himself and focus on his journey, but in doing so, the main character learned more about himself and found ways to let go of the baggage he had been carrying as well. That part surprised me a bit and I found it to be very rewarding as a reader.Overall I enjoyed the book. I had no issues with flow from chapter to chapter and definitely felt the emotion you were trying to convey. It's a very touching story. And I personally enjoyed the way in which it was written - meshing together the past and the present. It made it very realistic and I felt as though I was there watching it happen.

By Ladybug On the Primitive Way is the true story of two brothers who decide to walk the Camino de Santiago (the Way of St. James), a long and grueling trail that winds through Spain. Author Landon Roussel and his brother, Cory, aren't on the best terms. In fact, though they have never been close (to say the least), their relationship is especially distant since Cory has just been released from federal prison after a long stint served for attempting to sneak immigrants over the Mexican/US border. Despite their lack of connection, however, the brothers commit to hiking the trail, and, inevitably, the experience brings them closer together. This book is well-written. Roussel alternates between describing the trail and then describing what it was like growing up with Cory. The memories he shares are unique, interesting, and well-presented. I've read several "hiking the trail" memoirs lately, and this one certainly has its own twists and turns that set it apart from the rest. For the most part, I really enjoyed the story. It could get tedious, at times, with the daily-life play-by-play (e.g., here's how we booked our plane tickets, here's how we coordinated our travel times, etc.), but it definitely kept my attention.Still, I do have a minor gripe. The more I read this memoir, the more it became clear to me that a big chunk of this story is missing. Cory exists in this book...but also kind of doesn't. Even after reading so much about him, I felt like I never KNEW the man, you know? I started this book thinking I'd get to know BOTH brothers as they got to know each other, but I finished the book understanding that this memoir isn't about a relationship. It's about Roussel's fear. On the surface, it's about his fear of and for his brother, but I can't help but wonder if there is more to it than that.I really wish Roussel had talked more about his family life growing up. I could tell right away that there were some unhealthy dynamics there. It seemed like over and over again the family would just shut down and go silent when there was conflict, emotion, or even minor disagreements. Anxiety is a major player in this story, but it's rarely acknowledged. There's a lot of tiptoeing around feelings--which means, on some level, everyone knows SOMETHING is going on--but emotions are never deeply talked about. It all stays weirdly superficial.Ultimately, I am glad for Roussel that he was able to take this trip before his brother was (SPOILER ALERT) unexpectedly killed. It sounds like the trip was healing in many ways, and that's always a good thing. But I also still wanted more from this traumatic and complicated story. I wanted Cory's side. I wanted to understand the genesis of HIS pain--especially since, I suspect, the author may share a bit of that, too. The pain that lies beneath his brother's addiction--that's what I'm curious about. At any rate, this was an engaging read and well worth a few hours of reading time. My fingers are crossed that Roussel will give us a second book that digs a little bit more deeply into his own feelings about his family and past.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. I found this book online and I'm so glad I did By Zack I found this book online and I'm so glad I did! As soon as started reading it, I was hooked. This well-written, easy-to-read book recounts the story of two young brothers from the American South who took very different paths in life. After a tumultuous somewhat tenuous relationship growing up, the two are reunited and eventually travel to Spain, where they walk the Way of Saint James. Without spoiling the book too much, I found this little gem to be an incredibly powerful story of adventure, hope, and brotherly love and reconciliation. "Every day is a new etapa!"...I would highly recommend this book.

Over the next three years, all the prisons in New Earth were emptied, and the inmates sent to the moon. Only 63% of the inmates survived the voyage. The decision to move New Earth's prison system to the moon was made for two reasons: first, it freed up critical space on the planet's surface for housing developments and industrial facilities; second, moving dangerous criminals to the moon would keep the population of New Earth safer. In 2139, The New World Order passed a law designed to deter criminals from ever committing a crime. Not only would the criminal be sent to the Moon Penitentiary, but their entire family - parents, and siblings, or spouse and children, depending on the age of the convicted person - would be sent along with them. The cataclysmic conclusion to "The Moon Penitentiary" is finally here. The New World Order reigns after a nuclear war on Earth causes civilization to crumble. Now, neoteric rules and zero tolerance govern those who refuse to conform. The Hastons: Dirk, Rita, and children Garth and Rushell, are unfairly sentenced to decades of incarceration on the remote Lunar Penitentiary. There, they endure a hostile world a ruthless prison director, Soren, has cultivated. After an almost-successful getaway with the help of a sympathetic guard, Dirk has gotten left behind and has only hours to reunite with his family.Their plan to escape the moon and land near a rumored sanctuary beyond the irradiated zone on Earth is not going well. Lunar day is upon them, leaving them nowhere to hide and their resources are dwindling. Struggling with injuries, evading a vengeful Soren is getting more difficult for the family. The writing is excellent with a lot of pertinent details By Allena Clowers The characters are well developed and there is a lot more going on than just a race. The writing is excellent with a lot of pertinent details. I like the characters and really am curious as to how this is going to develop. The first book is short and left me wanted for more. Even though it was short, I enjoyed it and felt the characters and story were developed enough to make me want to read the next installment. Interesting story with a novel plot. The potential for a great series is there, looking forward to seeing how it develops.

The story is a rip roaring adventure set in a strange world inhabited by strange and horrible beings and its well worth a read if you like to escape from reality. The author also has other stories featuring different characters set in the same world that are also well worth reading if you like this series.

I could not put it down, and I was pissed when I got to the ending. Damn, do I hate cliffhangers! But oh, this author did the job perfectly as a writer. I can also see the technology used in this book becoming real in the not-too-far-off future. This should be interesting to see come into life. But seriously, grab this book if you're into sci-fi, technology and a story that keeps you hooked.

With contributions from professors, scholars, bloggers, playwrights, and novelists from Australia, the Netherlands, Canada, and Great Britain, as well as the US, this collection explores recent additions to the multifaceted Whedonverse. But it doesn't stop there. Above all comes the question "What's Next?" How will Whedon adapt other Shakespeares like Hamlet and Twelfth Night, seeing that he hates to make the same project twice? Will he offer a female Horatio, a stronger Ophelia, a play set on a spaceship or S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters? Who will star? Other creators have signed on for the Wonder Woman film, but can they surpass his unpublished script? What will come after Avengers: Age of Ultron – Star Wars? In today's world of Netflix shows, comic continuations, and web releases, Whedon has far more options than he did in the '90s Meanwhile, fans across the world are devouring his Buffy motion comics even as American creators pay homage to his works in their own shows, from Husbands and The Guild to How I Met Your Mother. All of this combines to build a glittering future for Whedon's fans and for the creator himself as the Whedonverse swells larger with each passing year.

6 of 6 people found the following review helpful. A New Spin on Whedon Essay Collections By Donna Kanter An astounding collection for those who thought the essayists had covered everything by our beloved Joss! Most of the essays focus on only the recent works: Cabin in the Woods, Much Ado About Nothing, and Avengers -- perfect for those looking to expand the Whedonverse horizons. The book has the usual analysis of Buffy and education, but also an interview with Professor Rhonda V. Wilcox, queen of Buffy studies. Theses essays are clever, focusing on the pop culture, gender roles, and themes. In particular, “That Man’s Playing Galaga” /Dis/ownership, Democratization and Demographics by Dr. Shathley Q looks at clever juxtapositions in Avengers while Watching the Whore: The Treatment of Jules in Cabin in the Woods by Carrie Sessarego emphasizes the shaming culture in which we participate. There's more on Agents of SHIELD, a show not yet explored heavily in scholarship.Valerie Estelle Frankel, the editor, takes on the lesser-known Whedon independent film In Your Eyes as well as Avengers 2, revealing the Whedon tropes in both and connecting all of Whedon's works together clearly. Of course, several essays look at how much these projects are REALLY Whedon's in a world of shared authorship, especially Of Whedonverse Canon and “Someone Else’s Sandbox:” Marvel, Much Ado, and the Great Auteur Debate by Mary Ellen IatropoulosThere's a big section on the recent comics: Seasons eight and nine of Buffy, and Angel & Faith, Spike: A Dark Place, and Willow: Wonderland. One essay covers the shifting mediums, and another, the lesser-known Motion Comics and their Japanese fandom. Two examine Faith and her quandaries in the new comics, while The Browncoats Return! The New Rebellion in Leaves on the Wind by Eugena McCrann looks at the comics that finally continue the adventure from the beloved Serenity film. The really neat sections that follow offer essays on SPECULATIVE Whedon projects -- one's he's been heard to say he'd like to do. As the book explains, "This led to much speculation about the next Shakespeare and how it might look – could it be a gothic Midsummer Night’s Dream with vampires living deep in the forest? A futuristic Hamlet set on a ramshackle starship or on a S.H.I.E.L.D. helicarrier? Twelfth Night with split filming from two different worlds like In Your Eyes? A cut-and-pasted Shakespeare in the tradition of Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead? Who, from Tom Hiddleston to Sarah Michelle Gellar, might star?" scholars Carl Wilson, Stephanie Garrison, and Joel Hawkes cast Hamlet and tackle Macbeth, Twelfth Night & A Midsummer Night’s Dream as well for endless casting and adapting possibilities. How would these look with a Whedon twist? The last three authors tackle the future: Sebastiaan Gorissen sees Whedon is primed for Netflix with its far different storytelling and distribution. Valerie Estelle Frankel (again) considers the Wonder Woman cartoon movie already made and compares it to Whedon's much-clamored-for Wonder Woman script and compares them to the heroine's journey. Finally, Dominic Nardi, Jr.describes a Joss Whedon Star Wars, the might incorporate his soul concept from Dollhouse. These last essays make this an intriguing collection as we wait breathlessly for Whedon's next project.

It spans all his work to date in all the media plus conjectures about future projects. Do you still love Buffy, the TV series, and just that? No problem. They've got you covered. Are you a fan of the Buffy comics? These are explored in depth. Maybe you don't care for vampires and are only interested in Firefly and Serenity. This is your book. Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog? Yup. Cabin in the Woods? Yup. Plus another movie I hadn't heard of, "In Your Eyes." Joss's Much Ado About Nothing is analyzed with plenty of discussion about which other Shakespeare plays he should or might want to adapt for film. And, of course, his work for Marvel, including the Avengers movies, Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and his run on Astonishing X-Men and other comics. Don't miss this book!

Excellent collection on recent Joss Whedon work By Don Macnaughtan This is a clear and entertaining review of Joss Whedon's current/next moves as a creative force. Instead of focusing on his established body of work, the collection ventures off into the head-spinning horizons of Whedon's present and future. Not much has been devoted to his recent work, but this collection ably handles Cabin in the Woods, Much Ado about Nothing, even In Your Eyes, an uncharacteristically ignored Whedon movie. Agents of Shield also gets some much-deserved attention. For Joss Whedon completists as well as those interested in his prodigious output, this essay collection is essential.

Kartman I liked the first volume of Mr. Larson's "Lost Colonies" series, and hoped the second volume would be as good. It wasn't ... it was better! Captain Sparhawk sets out in the Beta battle cruiser salvaged in book one on a mission of exploration and, possibly, diplomacy. His relationship with his headquarters is difficult, and the mission is further complicated by sharing command with his aunt Helen of Grantholm, an "oldie" who has been given authority over non-combat decisions. The dreadnought in question is a formidable Stroj battleship that relentlessly stalks him, intent on destroying him and his ship. The byplay between Sparhawk and the other characters, particularly his aunt, is engaging; the space battles are intense, and the Stroj are as bad as their name. I am eagerly awaiting the next volume!

On the Defiant, Captain Sparhawk and his crew depart Earth and for the first time in 150 years are about to cross a bridge in sp By Chris Hammond On the Defiant, Captain Sparhawk and his crew depart Earth and for the first time in 150 years are about to cross a bridge in space and travel to a different solar system. Unfortunately for them, they had no maps of the bridge and it could be a one way trip that leaves them stuck in hyperspace. They manage to find the exit of the bridge and the discover the a lost colony. One that was fearful and paranoid that refuses to answer the Defiant's hails and finally decides to attack. After repelling the attack, Sparhawk is invited to the colonies space station to talk and while there, the Stroj arrive and it leads to a fight between the Defiant and the Stroj pirate ship. Beating back the attack after destroying 3 of the Stroj pirate ships, the Defiant returns to the colony space station for repair. After leaving the station, the Defiant is led on a multi system chase where the Stroj attempt to trap and destroy them. After destroying the original pirate ships, the Defiant finds itself back in Earth's solar system with a Stroj dreadnought bent on Earth's destruction and the Stroj wanting Captain Sparhawk's body so they can take pieces of it for their half man half machine bodies.

I've read all the Greats - Asimov, Van Vogt, Norton, Heinlein - the list is endless. This guy Larson is GOOD. Really, really good. I'm a Physicist and Engineer who's up on Quantum Physics/mechanics and find it easy to shoot holes in a lot of speculative crap that infests a lot of today's work, but as I said, B.V. is GOOD. Not just tech-savvy-wise, but as an author and character-development expert (and superb writer). Very impressed. His other works are also outstanding. I'm looking forward to his publishing #3 (in his spare time lol) but I'd like to see the monster beta Amazon (no pun intended) back off permanently or go away because somehow being face-to Giant face with her intimately kind of creeps me out. I know it's a personal thing, but my style of reading is immersive. Anyway, can't say enough good about B.V.

Consequences: Book Three (The Celtic Vampyre Saga) Once inside the walls of Castle de Crüel, Nathaniel and Faelynn quickly realise that they might be in over their heads. An unexpected meeting with someone of significance from his past throws Nathaniel into a tailspin, which does not bode well for Faelynn, whose chances of surviving her trip to Newfoundland go from slim to nothing in the matter of an instant. Faith in herself and her cause was responsible for getting her this far, but without anything less than a divine intervention, her fate seems set in stone when Nathaniel is taken prisoner and tortured by the newly-elected head of the North American Vampyre Union. To make matters worse, Faelynn is forced to choose whether he gets to live or die. The only problem is that she has to choose between the two most important men in her life: Nathaniel and her father. Either way, nobody can win when she makes this impossible choice. Or can they? This intriguing and passionate saga would be attractive to the habitual readers of Gothic literary works, paranormal romance, and horror. *Warning: Some scenes within Consequences: Book Three (The Celtic Vampyre Saga) contain graphic language and explicit violence.* Reviews: “Continuing on at a cracking pace from where ‘Nocturne’ left off, ‘Consequences’ takes the reader through unforeseen twists and turns at breakneck speed. C.K. Farrell truly has a talent for storytelling.” – Ruairi O’Hagan, Cork’s REDFM. “After reading 'Consequences', the third book of The Celtic Vampyre Saga, it is clear that Farrell is a writer who is not afraid to flex his intellect while exploring the primeval components of raw passion and true love.” – Veronica Salva, New Hampshire Gothic Horror Review. "The Celtic Vampyre Saga is an enchanting and terrifying account of lost souls who seek redemption. It is a lot more than a simple, lustful vampire tale. Instead, it is a mature, artistic, and thought-provoking piece with substance in abundance. Read it, you will not find yourself disappointed, only inspired and enlightened.” – D’arcy Ondine, Artist, Poet, and Author.

Continues the high standard set in the previous books By Roar Have no fear - "Consequences" continues the high standard the author has set in his previous two books. After being mesmerized by the opening two installments Consequences gripped me right from the start. My only question is - when's the next one out?Thoroughly recommended.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Aptly named Consequences By Heather Wow. Many unexpected things happened in this book, lots of twists! As the story evolves the more I see such substance to each character. As in the last two books of the saga, I love how the author can describe any situation or place so vividly that you almost feel as if you're there too! I can't wait for the next one, this saga is a must read you won't be able to put it down. Very unique and addicting, not your predictable run of the mill stories. I can't wait to see what will happen next!!!

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Book3 - true to the series... By PNChick Ute Consequences,is the third book of the Celtic Vampire series, which easily follows in the footsteps of its predecessors , even if I want to point out, that book 2 is my personal favorite so far. It has a much faster pace than the other two and is loaded with new situations and problems for our heroes. `Decisions have to be made fast and the outcome is unsure - but somehow our heroes rise to the occasion and come out on the top.Now the reader can breath through and relax...until Mr Farrell throws a very wicked curveball at his audience and all goes down the drain. At this moment , the aw struck, dumbfounded reader , who really did not see that freight train shattering into their fantasy, has to compose themselves and wonder how this newest problem ever can be solved. At this point I can see the author sitting in his big, brown leather chair behind his desk, his hands folding together in front of his chest and having a slightly evil smile on his face. But hey - a good author is suppose to keep you on your proverbial toes.I truly enjoyed this third book and my curiosity is bursting - I hope for myself and other readers, that we do not have to wait to long for the conclusion.

The world, the characters, the descriptive nature of the prose, all combine to make you feel like you're in the story.Few stories in my life have managed that since I was a boy. You shouldn't pass this up, buy it, read it, eagerly anticipate the sequel alongside thousands of others.- Emperor_Cartagia

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. This is a GREAT story. It is well written By Thomas W. Stritter Oh boy! What can I say? This is a GREAT story. It is well written, carefully edited and extremely fun to read. The author built a world unlike any world I have ever experienced. The depth of the characters he created are dimensional, easy to relate to and likable. He expertly weaves an alternative universe into a modern setting. The action was well paced and communicated point of view and over all big picture perspectives effortlessly.I understand this is a first novel by this author. This is true, quality work that is well worth the read. I look forward to reading more by him. If you like to read a good, well told story in this genre, you won’t be disappointed.
