From the #1 selling Horror author on Amazon: Peter Meredith- The Apocalypse Exile The journey across the zombie-filled country does not get easier for the renegades. The Great Plains, the heart-land of America is now home to vast herds of the undead. These savage hordes sometimes stretch as far as the eye can see. Among them live the Azael--men who have regressed back to the bloody and chaotic roots of our collective ancestors where only the strong or the blood-thirsty survive. These far-flung tribes control the interior of the country, using great armies of zombies to inflict their will upon their neighbors. For the moment they are at peace with the soldiers of Colorado and for the moment they only see in Neil and the Renegades a way to make easy money escorting them across their lands at a steep price. It's a moment that can't last. The specter of death lurks among the group. It haunts them and strikes again and again until its appetite is wetted to a point where it can no longer hide behind the innocent face of Jillybean. What skulks in the depths of her mind is driven by ferocious desires, chief of which is the hunger for death. It's a hunger that will never be satiated not until each and every one of them is dead.Betrayal, murder, war--The Apocalypse Exile.

His writing is not for the squeamish. Bad things happen to good people as well as bad people. He really gets you to connect with the characters in his stories too. You can relate to them and to what they are experiencing in this horrific situation they find themselves in. I have read a number of Zompoc series and this one is right up there with some of the best. Another thing I really like about this author is the way his character's personalities change as time goes on and they are forced into situations that in a normal world they would have never found themselves in. They must adjust, adapt and overcome.....or perish. And in that mode, people will become hardened. So saying all this, I am letting you know that I enjoy this series and will purchase the next book. But I also have to say that, I wanted to give this book 5 Stars like I have given all the other books in the series. But I couldn't. And for one reason only. I will not put out any 'Spoilers' here. I hate reviews that do that. But, if you have followed the series, you will know who and what I'm directing this at. If you haven't, then I suggest you go out and purchase the previous books because you won't regret it. But you will also not know what I am talking about here. In this book, I think the author went far over the top with the actions of the character Jillybean to the point where she is irretrievable. He also spent so much time in the descriptive sense of the conversations with herself in the chapters dedicated to her, that it almost seemed like 'Filler', something he has never done before. The dialog became almost meandering. I found myself flipping pages just to get to the next chapter and away from it. He has taken Jillybean down a path I never expected, and was sorry to see. But the biggest and only drawback to this book is the 'Jillybean' chapters. But for me. it was enough to drop it from a 5 Star to a 4 star rating. And I am sorry about that. Some may disagree with me, and that's fine. This is just my own personal feelings.Another thing people who follow this series and have not read this installment should be aware of. This book is Very Dark. Lots of bad things happen. In the other installments, there were some brief moments of humor and levity. There are none here. It does not take away from the read. There is plenty of action, suspense, and hair raising page turning events, Zombies and Villains to keep you glued to it, with the exception, for me anyway, of the Jillybean chapters. I look forward to the next and final Installment , according to the author, of this series.

A disappointing glitch in a wonderful series By HorseHugger Is it just me, or was this book truly so very different from the first 5 books of this series??? I found the previous books absolutely riveting, but it was almost as if THIS book was written as "filler" material or something. Truthfully, I read the previous books some time ago, but they were still some of my favorite zombie apocalypse books. When I discovered books 6 and 7 were available, I was excited to buy them and couldn't wait to read them! However, this book fell FAR short of what I was expecting. The other books all had story-lines that were purposeful and exciting. This one, not so much. In my opinion, Jellybean's mental state was handled in an extremely tedious and repetitious way. (We get it ~ she'd become mentally unbalanced. You didn't have to keep describing her condition to me over and over and OVER again!!) Also, if memory served me correctly, the editing was sloppier in this book than the previous ones, too. (And, yes, if I'm paying my hard earned money on a book, I DO expect the author and/or publisher to respect their work product (and the reader!) enough to carefully proofread their book(s)!) However, what REALLY disappointed me was some of the author's awkward terminology. For instance, in Chapter 27 (yes, I was ticked off enough to note the chapter for this review!), the author uses the phrase "newly calved foal". What?!?!? The term "calved" applies only to cows and a foal is a newborn HORSE. Geeze! Another "note worthy" phrase was "he was crying fat tear-bulbs". LORDY! Anyway, even though I was very disappointed with this book, I didn't give up on the series and went on to read book seven. Mr. Meredith truly created some wonderful characters in this series. I just wish he had kept the momentum going with this book.

The 6th book in this series picks right up where the 5th book left off. The adventures of Neil, Sadie, Jillybean, Cpt. Grey, Deanna, and their crew continues but the outlook is grim. The usual optimism by the mild mannered Neil is gone as is the hope for the rest of the group. At first, I was unsure of whether I liked this book. I was turned off by the decline of Jillybean and felt as if it was unfair of Meredith to expose such a sweet little girl to such unimaginable horror. I, then, realized that Meredith had done his job. I was emotionally invested in these characters and felt sad for each of them. I missed Neil's optimism, Sadie's spunky character, and Jillybean's sweet and delusional antics. In this book, the characters all represented people on the edge. On the edge of insanity, on the edge of anger, on the edge of denial, on the edge of defeat, and I felt for each of them. I'm ready for the final book! Bring it on, Meredith! I'm impatiently waiting. . .
