While Book 1 had a certain number of skeptics regarding the plot line--they were proved wrong with this offering. This author continues to improve with each new book and has a future in this genre. If you are a military science fiction fan, this offering does not disappoint. I will purchase the next book in the series.

By Greg Phillips I signed up to be notified when this was published and bought (and read!) it the same day (blew my plans all to hell too but hey.....).It's space opera but FUN space opera. The science (in my opinion) has some holes in it........ 'Streaming smoke' in space? In debris fields so think you SEE lasers, but don't degrade those lasers? Debris fields that never seem to hit/damage any ships 'flying' thru them? You get the idea.Other reviewers have pointed out the similarities to Battlestar Galactica.....not being a fan, I can't addressed that. The space battles are fun, and have enough excitement to keep you interested.Bottom line----- this isn't deathless prose. Will this be a classic 50 years from now? Hell no! (Sorry Mr. Webb). Is it worth the money I paid? Hell yeah. For what it is, it's worth reading.

10 of 11 people found the following review helpful. Good, could've been better! By paulmuadeeb The first book was a quick read. The second was not so much. There were character development issues with the first book but they have to be overlooked because the author was developing the novel universe and characters. However the second book, instead of developing on the previous work, continued the same arc of original characters.XO Proctor: We don't know anything new about her even though she is supposed to be Captain Granger's right hand. All she does is follow orders and maybe play Devil advocate for him in some situations.Vice President Isaacson: He has to be the stupidest person to be ever elected to office. He believes everyone and is singularly driven.Captain Granger: He is not a very good tactician. He achieves victory by throwing cannon fodder at the enemy. And while the enemy is distracted killing thousands, he attacks them and destroys them. His only other tactic is to swing around the planet and attack the enemy. Also he seems to be a regular military person. He follows military chain of command and goes where he is told. Rebel, he is not. He does enjoy tense situations; demonstrated when he actually got into a discussion, with his bridge crew, about giving the ship a nick name in the middle of a very tense battle. The only character that really intrigued me was President Avery. She has layers to her personality that unfold as the story progresses. Despite all this the story is still good. I still look forward to next book because I am very invested in the storyline. I would not be critiquing it if I was not. I would like to find out happens to Captain Granger and humanity in general.
