Few things are worse than a system undergoing a cold boot...

Yet, Michael Bishop has little choice.

Michael Bishop is an Asset of the Facility, but tonight is his night off. His expectation is to have a few drinks with his friend Wyatt Guthrie, perhaps go out and have a night on the town. But the Facility has made other arrangements. Before he realizes what has happened, Asset 108 has been dispatched to a carnage-filled interior location, lit only with flickering and lurid light. As Michael drifts through the shadows, encountering stuttering and broken Facility technology, he attempts to figure out why he has been dispatched here and what his mission truly is. Yet before he knows what’s happening, he is fighting for his life. With his personal gear malfunctioning, Bishop stands against foes familiar to him, Assets that have been transformed into inhuman abominations. As time runs out, he finds his way to his cadre, and they fight their way to the depths of the mysterious Spire. There, they discover remnants of a lost, broken, carnage-filled world. As Michael and his cadre stand against the inhabitants of an entire world of bloody ruin, he is forced to face a painful truth.

It is possible that this dossier will be his last...

A Myriad of Worlds...

This story is the third in the series, The Dossiers of Asset 108, regarding the adventures and trials of Michael Bishop, a man who does not know his nature. It is a story of a shadowed world, a world where creatures of outer darkness are hunted by a faceless organization, the Facility. This series is itself a strand in The Paean of Sundered Dreams, is a multi-genre, universe-spanning array of tales with Lovecraftian themes. Some of the strands of this work are science fiction, some fantasy, and some steampunk, but they share the same horrific universe. They weft and weave together, each leaving breadcrumbs of clues for the next story. Each tale echoes a beating heart of darkness, cackling quietly in the shadows of existence. These stories may be enjoyed as individual series or as part of the Paean in its proper order. If you are a reader who is only interested in Michael Bishop and his adventures, rest assured, more is forthcoming. If, on the other hand, you are the kind of reader who cannot rest until every secret is found, for whom genre is unimportant, and who will travel a wide and vast multiverse to learn things man was not meant to know… Welcome, wayward wanderer.

This was written for you.

Here, he returns to the field of fantastic espionage and the series that began in Rationality Zero takes readers to even more new and terrifying places in this world and beyond in the third and longest installment following the character of Michael Bishop, super agent with The Facility and his cadre and their mission to defend the Rational world against incursions of alien powers from beyond the bounds of sanity. In this book we learn more about the various branches of the Facility apart from the purely martial Assets, as well as their opponents, agents and the methods and institutions they have constructed in our reality to further their nefarious schemes. These including murder, immoral experiments, and perhaps worst of all: a telemarketing outfit.Bishop also takes a few blows to the ego when he meets some other rather colorful personalities in The Facility involved in the fight to preserve Rationality. The breakneck action begins almost immediately and doesn’t let up till the final pages. Michael both wields and confronts an array of new toys, gadgets and weapons, both high tech and of eldritch origin.Guillen plays to the strengths of the genre, where infiltrating a secret lab shifts to a running fight in an alien jungle in the company of odd aliens. In addition, this book could also serve as an entry into the series, since the majority of the Bishop novels can be read independently. On the con side, the dichotomy between Bishop’s cyberneticly enhanced abilities and his memories and – to some degree – his personality is malleable by his masters is not as explored as I’d like. I eagerly await seeing how these stories develop and dovetail with the rest of the sagas of this multiverse.

That book got me hooked on the series. I waited for this new book, after deciding to follow the authors hella fun website and IT'S HERE. Omg...... I love Michael. Hes my new fantasy lifemate. He is my new Master Chief. I love the writing style. I LOVE THIS WORLD. I read this in one sitting this morning (waking up a 3 usually sucks but not today). I will be utterly shocked if this doesn't get turned into movie soon.

Troxel Aberrant Vectors is the latest release in JM Guillen’s series The Dossiers of Asset 108, a sci-fi espionage series about a cybernetically enhanced sleeper agent attempting to save the world from extradimensional tentacle monsters. I’ve been intrigued by Guillen’s writing for a while now, because each of his stories is connected in the larger multiverse of The Paean of Sundered Dreams. And although the stories in the Paean span many genres (we’re talking everything from secret agents, zombies, and tentacle monsters to sex priestesses and mysticism), they each tell the story of a world on the precipice of darkness, where the actions of heroes have a chance to make a difference.Aberrant Vectors begins as Michael plans to meet up with a friend at the bar, but is instead activated by the Facility to intervene in a deadly situation. A top secret location has been compromised–so top secret that until he was called in to help fix the situation, Michael never even knew it existed. When Michael arrives, he finds reddish blooms of psychic alien life, as well as a number of people who want to kill him. All in a day’s work!We soon find out that the Facility has terrestrial as well as otherworldly enemies. The Sadhana Corporation, an international conglomeration of dubious intent, has been helping different aberrations to slip under the Facility’s radar, and instead, using them toward their own diabolical ends. Michael and his cadre travel to Sadhana’s headquarters, where they encounter an enemy so vile and repulsive that it makes even the tentacle monsters seem cute and fuzzy by comparison–TELEMARKETERS!And on a fascinating note, it appears that one of the aberrations has begun to affect Michael’s brain. Whenever he sees blood, he becomes enthralled by it, and it seems to him that he understands all the mysteries of the universe and that only now does he understand the truth. Of course, while he’s tripping balls, he’s usually in the middle of a battle, where becoming mesmerized by the sight of blood is a very bad idea.During my review of The Primary Protocol, I speculated about the Facility and its intentions. Are they really the good guys? Do they have factions within? Reading Aberrant Vectors did not confirm or deny my suspicions, but it did give me some food for thought. At one point, one of the Sadhana goons threw a dampening grenade, which leads me to believe that Sadhana has at least one Facility Asset in its employ. I’m also certain that getting a Facility Asset to play traitor is particularly difficult, what with the mind control and all. Each Asset is constantly connected to the Lattice, and so the Facility theoretically has access to all of their memories. Michael Bishop doesn’t trust Agent Stone, but I’m not sure if that’s reason for me to believe that Stone is the potential traitor, even if some of his behaviors, such as insisting on speaking aloud rather than telepathically, did seem a tad suspicious. Michael’s impressions in Aberrant Vectors are seemingly compromised due to his infection, and so I can’t tell whether his distrust of Stone is something worth worrying about, or whether it’s coming from the same source as his fascination with blood. Clearly, I’m going to have to alter space and time so that Book 4 is in my hands immediately, and then I can continue to puzzle this one out. It’s been as impossible for me to put down these books as it has been for Michael Bishop to look away from blood. I’m pretty sure I’m crossing the line into rabid fangirl territory, but these books are amazing and I want the whole world to know about them. Highly recommended.
