I'm usually a big fan of the series but this one just seemed to go on and on about how she was unable to carry her child full term and all the heartache that comes with it. Instead of a funky, quirky and upbeat book it turned out to be a drag that I had to force myself to read to the end. Better luck next time hopefully!

Cindy and Timothy have been in charge of Faerie for ten years. For a fae that feels like a long weekend. But Cindy and Timothy are half motal. They continue to rule and act the way that is expected of them by fae standards and in the process they've lost sight of themselves. Much of this novel is dedicated to Cindy's emotional state of mind and how she's dealt with losing eight babies due to miscarriages. As a result they decided to stop trying to have a baby. Which psychologically and physically is eating away at Cindy's well being. Part of her problem is that they've kept these pregnancy's a secret from everyone including her family. As a side plot, women seem to be disappearing from all over Faerie and Timothy is left to deal with that. Overall, I understand that Cindy doesn't want to assert herself due to the event in the previous novel, but she comes across as a pushover. After ten years on the throne she's still mentally complaining about the clothing she has to wear. But she doesn't make an effort to voice her dislike of these garments. Secondly, to deal with eight miscarriages in silence is irresponsible and selfish. There is only one person alive that has given birth to a half fae / half mortal child and that is her mother. If I was her mother and found out about the miscarriages, not only would I be disappointed in my daughter for keeping her silence, but I would feel extremely devastated. I also felt like Cindy and Timothy's relationship is fragile and not as strong as she believes it to be. I think Cindy needs some sort of group counseling that could take place outside of Faerie to help her sort through her issues along with keeping her more aware of her state of mind. If she has other people keeping tabs on her she might be able to stop some of the magical manipulations that seem to creep up on her from time to time.

Clark I have read all the others in this series and this was for sure my least favorite. The whole book is about infertility and miscarriages. As some one who has faced that, I don't want to read about it in great length. And in the end... it's over. Just like that. I don't get it. Where the author could draw some pages out during climax scenes, she doesn't. I am left feeling confused about what happened, and find myself re-reading those parts to try to sort it out. Also, from the time I read the last book in this series to now, I don't remember all the insignificant players, a tad bit of back story when bringing up old characters would go a long way.
