Not only did it steer me to great restaurants, pubs, shops, and sights but I felt like I learned so much about London---and things that made the visit so much more interesting. He has a really interesting way of getting interesting tidbits of history even into reviews of, say, hotels and restaurants. The author is VERY opinionated, which I appreciated because he tells you what's a waste of time, important when you only have limited time. (I had a week to do London and felt like that wasn't enough time. I look forward to going back). And he took me to some places I wouldn't have known to go to, even after all my online research, which were really amazing (like the Churchill War Rooms and the Dennis Severs House). Best of all: the book was lighter than the other guides I'd brought, so I ended up just leaving those at the hotel, and carrying this one.

I have used the Frommer series during various trips over the past 20 years, but these are especially nice. The size is convenient, and not really bulky...yet contains tons of useful information. I love the mini itineraries they provide, which gives great ideas for highlights and quick trip ideas. The in-depth (yet not too much) profiles of the tourist locations provide enough information to decide if they are worth pursuing or not. I also like that if things are particularly touristy, the author says as much. Also offers food and lodging ideas for different budgets, a must when you are watching your spending!
4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Best Guidebook for London BY FAR I always carry a ... By Michael Green Best Guidebook for London BY FARI always carry a few guides when I travel and I found this one to be the best, by far. In fact, I ended ditching the other ones because it was quickly apparent that this had the most up-to-date and helpful information. The author has a knack for picking out the most interesting bits of history that really make the museums and other attractions just come alive. The restaurant reviews were spot on (and not as touristy as Rick Steves) and I found the suggested itineraries to be incredibly helpful. They divided the city up in a way that helped me make the best use of my time, while really seeing some great stuff. But the best thing about this book is the author is not at all shy about pointing out that certain things are tourist traps, and aren’t as worthy of your time as other places. (In fact, I took another guides advice and went any way to a place Frommer’s doesn’t recommend, and wished I’d stuck with Frommer’s advice!). Get this one! You won’t regret it!
