A beautiful book for children and their families, Milky Moments celebrates the joy of childhood and mothering, and normalizes breastfeeding as a part of day-to-day life. Delightfully illustrated scenes are complemented by lyrical rhyming text which gently draws the reader into the lives of the families depicted. The hand-painted illustrations are set in a variety of locations including a playgroup, a shopping trip, parks, hospital and at home. The children's ages range from newborn to 5 years old, baby and child breastfeeding positioning is accurate and realistic, and the love and attention to detail in the book were inspired by the guiding principles of the La Leche League and the author's own personal experience. Inspirational, intimate and fun, Milky Moments is not only a book to treasure, but also a book that will educate and inform on the importance and normality of breastfeeding―however old you are.

It is one of our favorites to read. I bought it as a gift for my youngest boy who isn't quite 2 years old yet. It turns out that my other kids also enjoy it and regularly pick it for a nightly story. You will not be disappointed!

The book follows several families as babies or toddlers are breastfed, on outings to the beach or the shops, as the family waits for a new baby to arrive or celebrates an ill newborn getting stronger and leaving the hospital, at a birthday party or just eating a family meal at home. There are older siblings who appear to have weaned and families with just the mother shown. The ethnic backgrounds of the characters are also diverse. So much crammed into one book! The rhymes don't feel forced as I find children's books often are, and the illustrations are beautiful. The characters are all named at the end, and we were delighted to find that two had the same names as my nurslings. There's no 'goal' to this book, like trying to help children night wean or prepare for a younger sibling: it just celebrates many different aspects of normal, everyday life for a breastfeeding family. We highly recommend it! My son even just walked over, gave me the sweetest grin and said, "Mummy, can I have a milky moment, please?" Buy one for yourself and one for your expectant friend who's planning to breastfeed!

No longer a stigma, the book re-affirms the importance of this experience in the home and out in public. Using the most natural of settings, the reader (a child) will see many family configurations doing what they do best - loving, bonding and being together. Buy, read, and give as presents. Ellie Stoneley has single-handedly made something so natural even the more so. Lovely book; lovely illustrations.
