At sixteen, Adam Levine had a record deal. His band Karas Flowers was on a popular TV show and he thought he would be a star. When his first record didnt sell, the band broke up. Afterward, he discovered music he really wanted to play. Most bands werent playing it and many people didnt think it was cool. Still he kept practicing. He rejoined with members of his band and they became Maroon 5. It took them years to become stars. They did it playing the music they loved.

This short prequel is an intriguing start to a larger story By C Thilmany This short story is a prequel to the larger book, Love Is For Tomorrow: International Spy, allowing the reader to get to know a little about the apparent back story for a couple of characters.I got thrown with the wording in a few sentences; nothing that spell check would catch. Those things slow me down, especially as I try to figure out what was meant. But other than that, I found the story and characters to be intriguing. At this point who is who is still purposely confusing.

I found this one pretty average, ergo the average rating.I found the action rather confused and the style a bit too simple. But it did picked my interest for the full novel, so I guess it fulfilled it's role.Oh, and the cover image is gorgeous.

By Amazon Kunde The story is engaging - it took me through spots that I know from Paris and Vienna and it is written in a way that you don’t want to stop reading. The book is extraordinary at giving the right amount of details. I though the book is more up-to-date than me, regarding what is trendy at the moment.

Many of us remember the Highlights magazines we read in dentist and doctor's offices. Now they are available through subscription. This book is the latest in a series of children's books of riddles, jokes, knock knocks, etc. There is something extra special in this book, Animal Crackups. It is illustrated by Rich Powell who works with MAD magazine, the North Carolina Zoo, various businesses, and he has a cartoon that appears in GoComics (Wide Open). For those who live in the South, his previous cartoon strip was called Dixie Drive, which is spot on in its comments about the local folks. Please be assured this book is clean and a great, fun read for your children. Here are a few samples of the material. What do you call a bird that smells bad?A foul fowl. What do you call a fish with no eyes?A fsh. What does a whale love to chew?Blubber gum.Buy this book! My 5 year old grandson loves it (and so do I).

This book has some really cute jokes that we have never heard before; we get a kick out of hearing her retell them to us. They jokes are kid appropriate and easy for an 8 or 9 year old to read, although some of them we have to explain to our daughter why it is funny. I would recommend this to all future comedians!

By Mark Carpenter You know you've done well on a gift purchase when your young nephew calls you several times to tell you jokes while he is laughing. I am told sometimes its the joke cracking him up, and sometimes it is the illustration. Animal Crackups is a big hit !

All that glitters may not be gold. When an antique gold show comes to Vegas, artifact-hunter Sara Wilde's job is simple: to locate and liberate a set of relics rumored to give their bearers access to an ancient, incredible power. Yet within the Connected community, whispers of a war against magic draw every psychic, mystic, warlock, and witch to Sin City. The most powerful Connected also covet the infamous relics, but no one wants them more than Sara's client--the insufferably arrogant, criminally sensual, and endlessly evasive Magician. And what the Magician wants...Sara's heist takes a turn for the trickier as the smoky-eyed specter from her past, Detective Brody Rooks, is assigned to investigate a break-in at the gold show, forcing her to confront the one man in Vegas she can't bluff. Even worse, just as she finally gets her hands on the goods, the game changes anew. The resulting chase leads her across the world to an ancient Egyptian temple filled with secrets, deception... and hints about her own abilities that could change everything. Desperate for answers, Sara is forced to turn to the one person she knows will manipulate, obfuscate and beguile to get whatever he craves. Only now, it seems, the Magician wants her.Sometimes, when the deck is stacked against you... you've got to play the Wilde Card.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Wlide Card By Amy Originally posted at Vampire Book ClubAfter figuring out the Connected are under threat from a group called SANCTUS, Sara Wilde and those in the Arcane Council are anticipating an attack to come sooner rather than later. Sara, for her part, is taking on more jobs, earning more money and trying to help Father Jerome house the ever increasing Connected that come to him for safe haven. These jobs also keep Sara out of Vegas, which is a big check in the plus column. But with her oracular obligations to the High Priestess and at the constant nagging of Armaeus Bertrand (aka The Magician), her respite is short-lived. When she does return, Sara is put in the service of the Council once again. This time it’s acquiring a set of scrolls that will be featured at an upcoming antiquities gala. These scrolls are thought to contain unimaginable power, and will certainly help with the fight against SANCTUS. Now, if only blast-from-her-past Detective Brody Rooks wasn’t watching Sara’s every move, maybe this job would go off without a hitch.Getting Wilde was a great surprise to me when it was released a few months ago. Wilde Card continues on in the same vein, only I think being familiar with the characters and setting, and knowing what to expect with Sara’s often zany antics makes this one a better read. There’s still a lot of mystery surrounding Sara’s power, and I’m ok with not getting the answers right away. I enjoyed seeing new things unfold, but I suppose the caveat with that is when all is finally revealed it better be spectacular—and with the way things have gone in these first two books, I have no fear that Jenn Stark will deliver.Surprisingly, I’m also not turned-off by the potential love triangle between Sara, Armaeus and Brody. It’s amped up in Wilde Card due to the fact that Brody and Sara reunited later on in Getting Wilde. Like Sara’s feelings for The Magician, she doesn’t really know what game Brody is playing. She’s smart enough to know that some of the emotions she feels towards him resonate from the crush she harbored when they worked together years ago. I like the history between them, but there’s still no denying the chemistry between Sara and Armaeus.I’m happy to report that, while still retaining his mysteriousness, Sara and Armaeus spend a lot more time together in this book, and despite her protestations about his controlling ways, it’s clear she feels something for him. What exactly that ‘something’ is, I suppose time will tell.Jenn Stark introduced a couple other members of the Arcane Council: The Empress (Roxie) and The Fool (Simon). Simon was by far my favorite addition. He’s somewhat new to his role of The Fool and it was nice to see a Council member who wasn’t all omnipresent and was still getting to know the ins and outs of his own powers. It brought out a more humane side to the Council. If you haven’t checked this series out yet, I highly recommend it. Anyone who likes a strong, wise-cracking heroine and some delicious chemistry will find a lot to love about this series.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Wow I think I've got whip lash! By Marta Cox Sara Wilde is a bit of a conundrum really. As part of the Connected community she has the incredible ability to use the tarot cards in order to locate lost or hidden items but she's a heroine with secrets. In the previous book she became even more entwined with the world of the Arcana council and is now in a very difficult position of desperately wanting to leave Vegas whilst knowing the council seem to have her right where they want her. Sara is determined to help save those like herself survive and will take any job she can but when will those with real power take a stance and help? There's something off though, something flickering at the back of Sara's mind and her latest job puts her right in the firing line. Her first love is in town, someone is desperate to awaken something older than dirt and then of course there's Armaeus the Magician a born trickster with an agenda of his own! Sara might know how to handle the cards but what can she do when the deck is so heavily stacked against her?Wilde is an appropriate name here because as usual the author takes her readers on a truly wild ride. From the first scene in Siberia to the crazy streets of Vegas it's so fast I'm surprised I didn't get whiplash! Sara might be talented but she is constantly at the mercy of those who should be helping and yet always seem determined to muddy the waters. Nothing is easy or straight forward and it's a complex story line so definitely a series to read in order. Interesting supporting characters that the reader needs to pay attention to but most of all a nonstop series of adventures that pull the reader in . With this book we are starting to see a whole new side to Sara as things from her past are encroaching on her present. The Arcana council have a bigger presence too but if you're expecting romance well this instalment ends in a way that really tantalizes. No nothing is ever easy for Sara and this reader wouldn't have it any other way!I was gifted a copy in exchange for an honest review

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Second in series By E.P. McLean Remains an uneven series. Sara is an interesting person facing potential war in Las Vegas between the magic community and forces of religious secret societies. Her adventures looking for magical objects is well done, but her love life is very badly written with little logic or sense. Plot is similar to other series out there today with little originality. Pleasent read if your expectations are not too high.

Silence has never been so sinful… Welcome to Edinburgh's unique psychic investigation agency, Serafina's. Serafina MacBride is psychic - but not strictly honest. While staging a hilarious vampire attack at a client's party, Sera is stunned to encounter a real vampire - annoying, gorgeous and inaudible to everyone but her. When her client's son is found dead with puncture wounds in his neck, she tracks the silent vampire to his lair. But the amoral and seductive Blair is also on a mission - to find and kill a nest of young vampires who've invaded his territory. Soon Sera is drawn into the bizarre world of the undead, where danger lurks in the shadows along with forbidden sensual delights - and a murderous conspiracy to flood the world with financially astute vampires who talk. Supported and hindered by Blair's eccentric, undead friends, and by her own motley crew from Serafina's, Sera and Blair uncover surprising truths about each other and about the mysterious Founder from whom all vampires are descended. In the end, Sera draws on powers she never knew she had in a frantic fight to defeat the forces of evil and preserve the strange, complicated being she's trying so hard not to love.

9 of 10 people found the following review helpful. Fantastic twist on vampires and great start to a series! By Marlene @ Reading Reality A psychic who doesn't believe in vampires! How delightfully unexpected. You would think that one person firmly resident on the eerie side of the fence would automatically give at least some credence to the possibility that there might be some truth to rumors about the other denizens of the night. But not Serafina. And that's just a part of what makes Marie Treanor's Serafina and the Silent Vampire so delicious.Serafina MacBride absolutely does speak with the dead, among other "tricks". But her own spooky powers are the only ones she has any faith in. So she uses them. Sometimes for good, and sometimes for things decidedly not so good. She knows her current client, Ferdy Bell, is hiding something from her. He says there's a vampire stalking him. Sera believes in ghosts, because they're a natural part of being. We live, we die, our spirit passes on. But vampires are unnatural, so they must be fake. Therefore, Ferdy must be having her on.However, Ferdy is a wealthy banker. His money is no lie. And he wants protection. Serafina's, the psychic investigations agency that Sera owns, is perfectly happy to provide it. And while Ferdy is hosting a big house party for all of his rich friends, Sera and her friends have a plan to scare him with a fake vampire attack, all in good fun.Too bad for Sera that their fake attack is crashed by two very real vampires. One kills Ferdy's son, Jason, and gets clean away. The other very nearly seduces Serafina just when the murder is taking place.Serafina still doesn't believe that the man she met in her client's garden--the one she saw biting her friend's neck!--is a vampire. Even though he only speaks to her in her head, and not with his vocal chords. She's the only one who can hear him.She doesn't believe until she sees Blair in action. beating up the "bad" vampires, the ones who killed, and turned, Jason Bell.Blair and Serafina are surprised to discover that they have a common cause--eradicating the nest of vampires that is taking over the heart of Edinburgh's banking industry. Serafina wants them removed because their insidious plan is to control Edinburgh, and eventually a much larger territory, by pulling the strings on a vast financial empire. They're turning humans in key financial positions into vampires.Blair wants these new vampires out of his territory. Edinburgh is his domain, and, reminiscent of Highlander, there can only be one -- at least without an invitation. Too many vampires in one place risks exposure. But Blair is working with Serafina for another reason, a much more personal one. The greatest enemy of the immortal is boredom. Until Serafina careened into his unlife, Blair had felt nothing for a very long time. With Serafina around, he's been angry, frustrated, horny, satisfied, curious, excited, fascinated, impatient, eager and every other emotion he hasn't felt for centuries. But he's never, ever been bored. Now that he's found a reason to live, there's someone out to kill him.Escape Rating A: I didn't want this one to end. The case had to be over, but it's wide open for the next book in the Serafina's series, and I want to find out what happens next to these people. Not just where things go between Serafina and Blair, but also Serafina's whole crew.Serafina and Blair's love story isn't just steamy (although it certainly is that!) but you feel the push/pull of Seraphina very properly worrying whether this is a good idea and what possible future they might have, and whether a fantastic time right now is worth the inevitable heartbreak. And there's Sera's posse, who are also terrific. I hope that future stories will see them getting their own happy-ever-afters.Oh yeah. Making the vampires silent was a stroke of genius. Very, very cool!I received a complimentary copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.Originally published at Reading Reality.

5 of 6 people found the following review helpful. B rating... By Smitten with Reading My Review:When we lived in England, we got to spend one absolutely fabulous weekend in Edinburgh. Reading this book was just like going back there to visit and I loved that about it. I could visualize it all. Vampires, especially uber-sexy ones that ride motorcycles in Edinburgh...it's a VERY NICE fit!!I liked the twist on vampires and magic that this book presented. Blair is a vampire and one of the parts of vampirism in this world is that they don't have the ability to speak to humans. They speak telepathically to each other. Since Serafina is a true psychic, she can hear Blair speak. Until she met Blair though, she never realized that vampires were a true entity. See, Serafina runs a business....it's on the up-and-up for those that truly need the service of a psychic, but she isn't against making a buck off of those who just enjoy the sensationalism of psychics. That's what she thinks she's doing when she runs into Blair. She has a new client who is feeling stalked by a vampire. Serafina is "protecting" her client, thinking that she just needs to put on a good show. So it's quite a shock when she runs into a real vampire, Blair.Everything snowballs from there as Serafina discovers that not only are there vampires, but now there's a whole new regime of them in the world who are out there trying to take over the world's banking system. Like I said, it's an interesting premise...both in the vampires, but also with the witches and psychics and their ability to all interact in this world.I really liked all the characters here and think that this is setting up for what could be a really enjoyable series. I loved Blair and the fact that meeting Sera has pulled him back from the edge. I like all Sera's friends and the different personalities there. There are also some rather interesting characters in the vampire world. The only character I'm not quite sold on yet was Sera and I truly think that's because she was being pulled in so many different directions in this book without being sure what exactly was right. Now that she's more settled and understands everything better, I think that I will like her (and the book) more in book #2. When she would just relax around Blair, I loved the two of them together. Like I said, I think that this is setting up to be a series to definitely watch.I received a complementary copy of this book in return for an honest review.

It started off on the wrong foot with me, and it just never clicked into place By The Nauti Vixen Title: Serafina and the Silent VampireSeries: Serafina Series Book #1Author: Marie TreanorRating: DReview: This book was not quite what I was expecting. It's one of those that had me going back and re-reading the blurb, wondering if I misread something! I was almost immediately turned off to the story by Serafina herself. To say that she was 'not strictly honest' is a bit of an understatement. She spends the majority of her time as a charlatan, conning people out of their money. Not only does she con them, but her and her 'employees' stage events in order to do so. The way the story was told regarding that left you with no sympathy for her or her friends whatsoever. Loving books on vampires, I thought for sure this one would be great - however, even the vampire aspect of it didn't really mesh with me. I didn't really think that the 'inaudible' part would actually mean that he talks without ever moving his lips! I assumed that he would be invisible to everyone but Serafina, and that she would be the only one who could hear him. That it would be somewhat of a twist on vampire lore and he would be somewhat like a ghost (rather it be a permanent thing or simply temporary). Instead, he's visible to everyone, no one else notices anything weird about it, and to Serafina he doesn't move his lips. The idea of this in my head just weirded me out on the whole storyline, and it just didn't get any better for me after that. Perhaps it's just me, but I just didn't connect with this book at all. It started off on the wrong foot with me, and it just never clicked into place. I usually like something a little different from the standard, particularly when the author can pull it off and make me believe that it could be possible. But I just didn't feel that with this book. So much so that I had a hard time reading it. Apparently, I am in the minority here....after writing this review I checked it out on Amazon. At the time it had 31 reviews - 12 of them were 5 star ratings, and 13 of them were 4 stars, so keep that in mind if you're thinking about picking it up.[...]

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. A fun giant monster story By Amazon Customer A fun giant monster story. Any fan of the original King Kong film will enjoy this novel. There is plenty of Yeti vs Ice Age Animal action.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Modern man vs prehistoric cousin By M.James Although the beginning of the story was slow with premise building, the actions revealed later were worth the wait. Characters had depth. Several I liked including Yeti. One I didn't like and his wished for demise was granted. Some word misspellings detracted from the reader's total enjoyment of the book.

3 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Jake was pretty dumb. By A Customer I liked this book, but Jake was really dumb to run away in the beginning. He should have just stayed and avoided the whole thing and not try to get everyone killed. Some of the parts were pretty good like when the wicked doctor-lady came out, but some of them were kind of boring, and they went on and on and on about the machines they used. It got kind of old after a while. But still, great book. It's pretty fun.
