Innkeeper Chronicles #2 Dina DeMille doesn’t run your typical Bed and Breakfast. Her inn defies laws of physics, her fluffy dog is secretly a monster, and the only paying guest is a former Galactic tyrant with a price on her head. But the inn needs guests to thrive, and guests have been scarce, so when an Arbitrator shows up at Dina's door and asks her to host a peace summit between three warring species, she jumps on the chance. Unfortunately, for Dina, keeping the peace between Space Vampires, the Hope-Crushing Horde, and the devious Merchants of Baha-char is much easier said than done. On top of keeping her guests from murdering each other, she must find a chef, remodel the inn...and risk everything, even her life, to save the man she might fall in love with. But then it's all in the day's work for an Innkeeper… “Andrews is an auto-buy no matter what the genre!” —Romantic Times “If there is one author that defines Urban Fantasy, it is Ilona Andrews.” —Annie Tegelan, Fresh Fiction "One of the brightest voices in urban fantasy and one of my favorite authors. Ilona Andrews delivers only the best." —New York Times bestselling author Jeaniene Frost

Meeks OK, first thing, I did NOT read it in serial when it was on the website, I wanted to wait for the whole polished thing and WOW, was it worth the wait.Where to start, they first have painted the picture in this series of Dina as some fragile heroine while at the same time letting you know that is totally a lie.The plot is so intricate you would have to be able to predict the future to know where this plot is going and where it will end up.Add some great humor intertwined into the whole book and you now have something that looks like a masterpiece of entertaining reading (which it was). The basic plot is the inn is hosting a peace conference (hence the title) between 3 groups that pretty much hate the fact that the others are still breathing. Fun time ahead for all, it was great and I don't know how these 2 people manage to keep cranking out exceptional stories like this but I hope they keep it up.5 Stars only because I can't give it more, I laughed, I was concerned, I was fooled (silly boy thought he knew where the plot was going) and above all I was entertained on almost every page, something almost nobody does and for sure nobody does it better.

One-of-a-Kind Series and wonderful story By Jen Twimom Sweep in Peace is the second story in Ilona Andrews’ wonderfully original Innkeeper Chronicles. This series is a unique blend of outer space science fiction and paranormal, earthbound urban fantasy. Main character, Dina, is an Innkeeper, a magical human that runs an even more magical and amazing inn for space travelers. Her inn is still fairly new and needs otherworldly guests to help it grow and thrive. Galactic Arbitrator George knows of Dina’s hidden desperation and uses it to force her into hosting a most assuredly deadly peace negotiation.Dina is an unconventional character with a heart of gold. She has a very strong moral compass, which leads her to do what is best for others before considering how it will impact herself. As an Innkeeper, she wields a lot of power, but she never misuses it nor does it make her arrogant. In fact, she really should stand up for herself more, and I was so happy to see her grow over the course of the book, learning to deal with those who would manipulate her to seek a means to an end.Dina is surrounded by one of the most interesting and enjoyable ensemble of characters I have read. From villain to love interest, friend to foe, no character is wholly good or bad. Each has its own story that is remarkable in and of itself. Even the Gertrude Hunt Inn has a life of its own, and the Innkeeper-Inn relationship is phenomenal.Sweep in Peace is an engrossing story, with a lot going on. I strongly recommend reading the first story, Clean Sweep, which explains a lot of the world and introduces the main characters, several of which who return this time around. I loved watching Dina work out how she would keep her warring guest safe; the thought and effort she puts into every detail is compelling. Similarly, I enjoy seeing how she pieces together several side mysteries with logic and skill. The Innkeeper Chronicles truly is one-of-a-kind. Sweep in Peace pulls together great character development and solid storytelling, set in an uniquely creative world. I really enjoyed reading this one and look forward to what comes next. The story itself was rich and complex. full of twists and turns. It was a lot to keep track of, but it all came together in the end. I strongly urge you to pick up this amazing series. My Rating: AReview copy provided by author

So, so good By Jen (Red Hot Books) The fact that Ilona Andrews publishes this series as a free serial on her blog is such a lovely gift to her fans. It’s a gift, though, that I choose not to take advantage of, simply because I don’t have the patience for a serial. And just as with Clean Sweep, I am so very glad that I waited to read this story all at once. I loved it every bit as much as the first book, maybe even more. It’s been five months since we last saw Dina and the Gertrude Hunt Bed and Breakfast. It’s been a bit lonely since Sean and Arland left, taking all that danger and excitement with them. But now, Dina has a new challenge. An Arbitrator has approached her to use her inn as a neutral site for a peace meeting among warring nations. It’s risky, but the money she earns and the magic her guests will generate for the inn are too tempting to turn down.Let me stop here and share my thrill over the Arbitrator, who is none other than George Camarine, one of my absolutely most favorite characters from the Edge books. You don’t have to be familiar with that series to enjoy this story at all, but I loved George and his brother Jack so much, it was truly a joy to see them again.Anyway, the meetings are fraught with peril. And they’re filled with both new and familiar faces. Old friends like Nuan Cee, the Merchant Dina did business with in the last book and Arland, the sexy vampire warrior, mixed with new characters like Dagorkun, of the Ortokari Horde and the lovable (at least to me) and high strung chef Orro. The result, a rich canvas of engaging people who surround Dina as the peace talks slip further and further from her control. As with the first book, there are only hints of romance. Sean does show up at some point, but this is one step slower than what you’d even consider a slow burn. That does not mean I was in any way unsatisfied. There is plenty enough going on here to keep me invested. I’m fascinated by the worldbuilding and I love how Andrews is growing new layers to it, introducing us to different kinds of beings and their cultures.I love Dina, her determination and no-nonsense attitude. I am, of course, completely enthralled with George, Jack, and Lark, though part of me is sad about the fact I missed so much of their lives in the interim since they were teens. I’d like more Arland –and a little more development for Sean. If he’s our guy, I need to start getting to know him beyond the soldier and selfless protector. But the bottom line is that it’s all good enough that I didn’t want to put it down and I am left wanting more. The story really moves; the pacing is great and the plot is interesting. I would definitely recommend. You can’t go wrong with Ilona Andrews.P.S. I love the illustrations. George is so pretty.Rating: A

By Solidstach Solid four stars. The whole series follows a true and tested macho formula: a man builds things, kills people and has sex with women. Simple, yet effective storytelling.Extermination does not stray from this path. I shall now describe in detail what I like and dislike about it:1. The main character builds many awesome magitech devices. Yet this is not taken to its logical extreme, and Daniel does not have eidetic memory when it comes to science he can copy with magic. He may be educated reasonably well, but many esoteric parts of physics and other sciences eludes him. This is good, because making him an omnidisciplinary science savant would be a good reason to dislike the character. The devices themselves are inventive and, at some times, surprising. A plus in my book.2. Previous two books were pretty mediocre when it came to armed conflict (except for a single fight in "Black Coven"). This book shows the author's great imagination when it comes to fantasy battles. There are only a few fights described in the book, but all of them are done very well. Different environments, different enemies and tactics, good improvisations by Daniel and others. All of it makes fights in this book interesting to read and recreate in my head. Nicely done.3. Sex in the Daniel Black series always takes the role of spice: it adds flavor, even if it's barely present. Sex scenes in the book either take the "fade to black" option, or, in one case, a dry, almost technical description of the act itself. This is similar to "Fimbulwinter" and worse than "Black Coven", in my opinion. The only explicit sex scene in this book convenes the sense of lust and need, but it entirely lacks passion. I do not know if this was intended by the author: if yes, then good gods, man, you caught me by surprise. What i like the most about the Daniel Black series is its unpredictability. Despite foreshadowing (yes there was some foreshadowing, a few sentences really) I did not foresee even a small part of the plot of "Extermination". This is rare, since fantasy authors are getting more and more predictable lately. My second most beloved thing about this series is its setting. Its original. Its intriguing. Its bleak and colorful at the same time. Its awesome. My feelings are mixed when it comes to descriptions of interpersonal relations in the book. Like the sex scenes, they are simplified and streamlined for efficiency. For different people this may be either a good, or a bad thing. Finally, I can recommend this book (and series) to anyone seeking something new and exciting in fantasy. While some parts of the narrative may be discouraging, the plot and fight scenes compensate for this very well.

9 of 10 people found the following review helpful. I love the blend of science with magic but not with ... By Kindle Customer Another example of the writing of E. Willam Brown. I love the blend of science with magic but not with huge machines that have some magic aspects or pure magic that looks like science. No instead he would use magic and bend it to produce a science effect to achieve the intend result. Also while I like a good story with sex the author didn't write pages and pages of it but show the start and skip to how it end to continue the story. He only wrote one long sex scene but it had a reason behind it for the story. I just wish the author would make Daniel stop long enough for him to enhance his body to the point of his brides. HIs magic is mighty but his body is week! The ending gave him some very big hint in the becoming moreSpolierI hope he can grow some bannas with the one Mara gave him. This way he can become a demi-god

7 of 8 people found the following review helpful. Nicely done... By Amazon Customer The best of the series, to date. The action sequences were well-developed, and the "slower" scenes filled with character development. Though some emphasis was on developing existing characters, new characters were brought in as the "Black sanctuary" expands.I compliment the author on his esoteric knowledge, and his ability to research and verify. I appreciate that his world(s) building parallels modern physics, which substantiates rather than makes predictable. I hope that the delicate combination of innovation and adventure continues through his next novel(s). All things considered, the number of potential books in this series is almost unlimited.I highly recommend this book, and look forward to future adventures which will no doubt include "Mara", "the apples", and "Erika"...

No, it's not a contender for the Booker Prize, but for me at least that is a good thing. It's written in a relaxed, colloquial style that makes for easy reading. The author is clearly a fine exponent of dry, understated Kiwi wit. I am sure New Zealanders (and others who appreciate this type of humour) will enjoy the book greatly, especially those who have experienced the rigours of budget travel, whether in South America or elsewhere.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. What the the travel guide of choice forgot to mention... By Cara O'Connor I thoroughly enjoyed this read. Any traveler can relate to the absurd and hilarious situations that these two find themselves in!While this not a guidebook, per se, there is a ton of practical stuff in here that other travelers and trekkers will find useful (the many mistakes and successes on their journey), so I would definitely recommend buying this along with the travel guide of choice.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. A hilarious adventure By Sophie S. A funny and informative tale of some pretty crazy adventures. I loved being able to 'travel vicariously' through this book, mostly because I'd never be brave enough to attempt this kind of travel myself! I only wish I'd bought the paperback version - my black and white kindle didn't do justice to what appeared to be some incredible photos.

I had no idea what we were going to do other than go to the Grand Canyon and purchased this book to give me some ideas. I literally read this on our way to Arizona. I'm so glad I bought it because it gave me ideas on what to do, where to go, where to eat, and where to shop. If you've never been to Arizona/Grand Canyon/Sedona, this is a good little book to have. It also provides you with a fold out map of the state. As I was deciding where to go, I wrote the locations on the map so that I could come up with the best itinerary based on proximity to one another. The book saved my trip.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. One Helluva good time! By Amazon Customer All the reasons that made Dead Island a badass book, are back and killing it in Dead Island Dos, B-movie action with an 80s all star cast! This series doesn't disappoint and just will not die!

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Interesting twist on the beginning of the end. By CaseyS Allen Gamboa has taken us back to the beginning. The zombie apocalypse is a..... I am sorry, but I cannot give it away. The story builds and builds. You will have a hard time not wanting to know what the next chapter will reveal. This is a very well thought out and intriguing book on the beginning of the Zombie Apocalypse. Russians, Mexican drug cartels and yes, Americans involved in the spread of the virus. Allen Gamboa has really created an intriguing world in this incredible tail of the beginning of the end. Makes you wonder, hmmmm.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. ALLEN GAMBOA SCORES By R. McBroom I had to wait FOREVER for this installment in the series but it definitely did not disappoint. Allen Gamboa now I need #3 hint hint. This book is actually a prequel to book 1 explaining the origins of the outbreak and where the main chracters were previously.
