From the best-selling author of the Blood Curse series comes a new legend of danger, dark-fantasy, and vampiric dragons....
Mina Louvet is a fighter, a human with a powerful will to survive in a world dominated by warlocks, soul-eaters, and shifters. Identified by the king's witch as one of the rare, invaluable females in Dragons Realm who can give birth to a dragon's son, she was stolen from her parents as a child and taken to the Keep to be reared in the ways of the Ahavi. As one of the few, the elect - the Sklavos Ahavi - Mina is expected to feed her master's fire, reanimate his blood, and above all else, give him strong dragon offspring: children who will one day rise to power. But Mina, to her great misfortune, is far too intelligent for her own good: She has a stubborn sense of justice, and she is wholly incapable of blind submission.
Dante Dragona is as cunning as he is lethal, as methodical as he is dangerous, and as terrifying as he is powerful. As the eldest of three dragon princes, he is destined to succeed his merciless father to the throne of Castle Dragon. But first he must do his duty to the Realm by governing one of its harsh, unforgiving districts and claiming a Sklavos Ahavi. Hardened by the sadistic abuse he endured as a child and shaped by the tragic suicide of his twin, the prince lives only to fulfill his obligations to the monarchy: to maintain law and order in a bestial land, to contain its magical inhabitants, and to keep the kingdom safe from its mortal enemies, the Lycanian shifters across the sea. Like all primordial dragons, he rules with an iron fist, dominates with absolute power, and punishes with fire. Those who oppose him die a swift and brutal death - subject, enemy, or slave, the Realm has no tolerance for weakness.
When the iron resolve of a dragon prince clashes with the stubborn will of a slave, bonds will be broken, alliances will be tested, and a kingdom will be set ablaze.

Not for me By Amazon Customer I thought the writing was fairly decent (although the author does love to use italics), but this was just a bit too dark and violent for me and I really didn't care for the ending. I am a bit of a sap so I prefer stories a bit brighter and fluffier, so maybe I should've steered clear (but it sounded so good!). I thought the world building was very interesting, but I didn't really enjoy the interactions between the two protagonists because of the roles this world creates. The males are mean and violent in a way that was unappealing to me. I'm all for bestial, growly men with a penchant for violence...but not against women. It just seemed like misery after misery for the poor female lead. Fans of darker fiction/romance would definitely enjoy this. For softer hearted folks, maybe try Juliette Cross?

Rae The only reason I finished this novel was because it was a train wreck. The author clearly wanted to tell a political romance, but gave herself no room to develop the characters I was supposed to empathize with or the story I was supposed to be invested in. The world building also made absolutely no sense - you have a war between a nation of cowed humans and nasty warlocks (and some kind of shadow creatures that eat people, but are never developed so that you can understand the horror of the protagonist's younger sister being abducted by them), and a nation of shapeshifters. The dragons treat their subjects like chattel, but are supposed to rule because the king can scare away their enemies and scare the internal nasties into behaving. And we, as the reader, are supposed to accept this reasoning as acceptable for the frankly horrific behavior of all the dragon characters. There are also major consent issues, due to the fact that the protagonist has been raised to to be a slave and breeding stock. She's also not a rebellious slave who challenges the crown prince and makes him re-evaluate the political world he's been raised in. Instead, by having the nerve to ask a couple of questions early on in the book, she guides the reader into accepting that rape, torture and murder are necessary to the safety of the realm, so long as the dragons are kept strong. Meanwhile, her "beauty" teaches the crown prince that a certain measure of compassion is necessary in day to day life, for those he cares about.I came away from this book ready to do some dragon slaying. I very much wanted every single character in this book to die. I settled for returning it promptly and at least getting my money back, if not those few hours of my life, which I put to good use regaling my husband with the story and making him share my pain.
