Having worked with many companies and particularly with Human Resources departments, I was thrilled to see a book recommending FUN as a critical component of corporate culture and organizational wellness. This book is action oriented and shows organizations how to replace the old-school (think office parties and picnics) expensive and ineffective approaches to providing "fun" at work with meaningful, inexpensive and high impact experiences. You can't lose with this book. It is short enough to feel light but has enough information to feel profound. Well done Fun Department!

I have 100 employees and after reading this book I immediately implemented a Fun Dept in my company. It was the missing piece(or I should say missing department). I loved how the book was a simple how to! My staff is of all ages and we use the words "Enthusiastic" and "Engaged" in our mission, and after completing Playing it Forward, I now know how to bring the mission more to life. Business owners of today....A MUST READ!Maria McCool-Calista Beauty BrandsBy Scott Drinnan on May 22, 2015Format: PaperbackI just finished reading "Playing it Forward" and found it to be a terrific read! I particularly liked the content, structure, format, and, of course, the fun! I'm still howling over the "hump day challenge" story of Ryan...As I read, I found the discoveries validated many aspects of my experience in the workplace, especially as it relates to change management - obtaining leadership participation, surveying and listening to what team members want to do for fun, and the idea that a healthy environment needs to adapt to change along with the various illustrations of fun - all resonate with what I have also observed in the world-of-work.When I was reading the 3Cs, I was reminded of a saying of a friend of mine who worked in the investment industry. He proudly stated that he would not hesitate to get his hair cut during business hours. When asked why, his answer was "since your hair grows on company time, it's only fair that it's cut on company time"... I realize that wasn't the point being made about company time; however, it's a funny story that remains ingrained in my memory whenever I hear the words company time! Seriously, this book is spot-on with the importance of incorporating fun within the fabric of the work day. This book has also helped me to have an even deeper understanding of what The Fun Dept. does for their clients and how they do it. It's fascinating to me how the topic of “increasing employee engagement" is covered in such a practical, realistic and achievable way.I look forward to participating in The Fun Dept’s Public Workshop on June 1st, now with even higher expectations of what a great experience it will be!-Scott Drinnan, Founder & Principal, Drinnan AssociatesBy Irina Baranov on May 24, 2015Format: PaperbackFinally, finally, finally! A how-to-guide for engagement in the workplace. We've all read the studies, the articles, the LinkedIn posts.. we know that fun and engagement works to attract and retain the best of the best. It's the glue that holds our departments and our companies together. But how? How do we accomplish that goal? This book holds the answer. Many answers, actually (since one company's idea of fun will be different from another's). I loved the stories, guidelines and concrete advice that the authors - who are clearly THE experts on fun at work - share. Practical, applicable and easy.If you care about increasing/improving engagement in your team, read this book!By EVA P MENON on June 22, 2015Format: Paperback Verified PurchaseI believe fun is great for business great and morale. It helps increase productivity and more innovation. Nick is so eloquent in explaining how it all works and how to implement it. I love that he is honest and tells us it all takes time Like everything worth while. If you have a business or work at a business get this book and see what parts you can implement . It is fun to play ! Turn your work into play, everyone wins.I’ve been enjoying your book ‘Playing it Forward.’ I like the casual and fun voice, while its also loaded with experiences from different companies and helpful ‘theory’ charts. It definitely inspires me to work with my team members to have fun in the workplace!- Beth Kowal, Oregon State University

Say these authors. Fun is fundamental to employee satisfaction, customer service and it will go far to influence your company’s success. The authors’ backgrounds spring from sales, production and entertainment. Dr. Paul McGhee, star humor researcher, was their early mentor. who verified what they were learning about the value of fun at work. Paul’s early research helped us to learn how to use humor in the workplace. The authors feel that fun in the workplace needs to be as normal as the commute and the coffee break. Yes, a company needs consistent fun breaks, rather than one big expensive party, as at the holidays. Companies with “fun built in” notice morale increases, quality of connections improve at work and it fuels employees’ relationships with clients. The authors also remind readers that management needs humor and playful managers are catalysts for productivity. Each company consulting with The Fun Dept. is assessed in order to find the type of fun they are seeking. Then employees proceed to build their own fun and reap the benefits. Though each company is unique, here are some fun infusions that provided the desired zip.Morning icebreakersPut fun into employee orientation, and extract boredomMini picnicsTrivia games designed for your workplaceMini golf competitionTricycles. Imagine your employees in a “trike-a-thalon”“Spring Break” themed activity with optional arts, team challenges and a Hawaiian luau lunch. Tastes better if you wear a lei.Improve your workplace culture by embracing the tools here…yes you can have your own personalized Fun Department!
