The author has done a great job of keeping the protagonist couple sympathetic and romantic while hitting them and their allies with exciting challenges. The result is a well paced storyline with a good balance between growth of interpersonal bonds and plenty of action. Fans of paranormal fiction take note: this series avoids the over-worn tropes of werewolves and vampires and breaks new ground, and has done so successfully, making it a must read for fans of the genre looking for a series which stands out from the pack. Pun intended...
