By Amazon Customer This is a first rate sci fi story, focusing on the training and development of "empowered" (i.e. super powered) police/soldiers in an America that has seen some pretty hard days. There are some really clever and original takes on powers and their application here, a very rich background world, and a first rate story that has me excited about volume 2.Seriously, it costs a dollar. Skip your next candy bar and buy it already.
7 of 7 people found the following review helpful. Yes, three times! By Thomas Mack This is a great story, and I can say that for a fact since I have read it all the way through three separate times.Any book you are willing to read three times has to be good, right? The story is fantastic for multiple reasons, but the big ones for me are the unique powers of those involved, the realistic (if harsh) setting and the great characterization. If you are sick of superhero stories with plot holes big enough to make plot armor out of this is the tale for you.
5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. a great find By Charles Rodby I rarely write reviews of fiction but this author and story were compelling enough for me to take the time.I read extensively. I am academically trained in writing and analysis. I feel it is important to provide my background for context in this case. The story is great. The author is subtle about advancing the plot and chooses a really nice way of throwing the reader into an unknown situation and then explaining after the fact. This style can be jarring and irritating and this is nearly the first story I've read in which I am energized by the uncertainty. The author is also careful to thoroughly explain many parts of the story. For every unanswered part the reader will have deep insight into much of the rest of the story.I find myself impressed at the simplicity of the story because of the level of detail contained within. It seems like it should be a flat superhero story. Instead it becomes an elegant and innovative tale.A great find for me and a great benchmark for aspiring authors. I am looking forward to many more hours of enjoyment.-If you have any questions about my review I will try to respond within a day or so-This story could certainly use the services of a good editor. The story sometimes reads like a good rough draft or story arc that is waiting for the author to return and flesh out. However, I feel it is the responsibility of the reader to suspend disbelief and to recognize this work was produced for free and is offered for free. If we, as the audience, want the author to have the time and resources to improve the we need to review and purchase their work.
