Set in the world of Hugh Howey's Sand, Keith McBride's Across the Chasm is a story of fierce loyalty and heartbreaking betrayal. Booker is a sand diver, like his father, his uncles and his older brothers before him. But his family is breaking apart. When Booker's youngest brother is kidnapped, he sets out after him across the harsh terrain, determined to bring him home at any cost. Once Booker crosses the Great Chasm, he learns that much of what he knows about the world is a lie, and finds that reuniting his family may be harder than he thought.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. A fast, but good, read. By Sarah Worley I enjoyed reading this novella. It has a few pacing issues, but at the end of the day what mattered to me is that I had fun reading it. I wanted to know what was going on. The writing is clean, and the descriptions are beautiful. I've never read Hugh Howy's "Sand," but I felt the world. I understood what was going on. I could see where the story was taking place and I understood the struggles of living there. Pacing issues aside, that makes a good story to me. I was hooked, I was interested, and I think this is a good enough novella that people should read it. The moral is deep and heartwarming, and I definitely understand the struggles the main character, Booker, had to go through to understand the moral. It's a fast, but good, read. I'm glad to have found it.
1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Fast paced read, great plot. By Megan Chapman The pace of the story was very quick, the plot twists kept me dying to know what was going to happen next. Booker's struggle trying to decide who to trust really felt natural and human. I read this story without ever reading the sand saga and loved that I could delve into the story without needing any past information and quickly connected to Booker's story.
